Hi - recently I discovered that I cant get the gas cap to seal, its loose, even with several clicks. I then bought a new one.
Same result, damn weird. I am tired of fooling with it. Of course then, on the digital indicator, I get the loose gas cap message and the check engine light comes on.
So many quirks in this car...
Wahts the fix?

btw, I am keeping the car for now.

Is your Service Engine Soon light on?
Yes, it came on after the loose gas cap happened.
If the cap wasnt loose a service engine light is ususally a evap system fault or in that circuit. - Car runs fine.

Cannot see how the system can determine a loose gas cap versus an evap leak somewhere else.
This is true. The system has determined there is a leak in the evap system somewhere. It may or may not be the gas cap. I’ve gone through this whole scenario on two different Lesabres and neither one was the gas cap. I would see if you have a stored code that may be able to better isolate the issue. I would also check the top of your filler neck and make sure the surface is smooth and doesn’t have any corrosion or roughness on it.

Are you using a cheap cap or a quality replacement?

Its an Amazon job... side by side with the OEM and they look identical.... The main reason about the cap is that I can move it some side to side after some clicks on reinstall and I get a loose gas cap note on the DIC..........

Never was an issue before, something has changed... GM has gone cheap instead of using a "threaded" style.... This one and OEM has a triangle on 2 sides that are supposed to grab the insert on the nozzle of the gas tank....
(I hate this car)

Do you have an OBD2 code?

My brother had that gas cap message on his 2004 Limited. I think it was a P0446 code which turned out to be a bad vent valve.

The thing is I can still rock the gas cap back and forth, no matter how many clicks I do... Its obviously not sealing.
My neighbor checked the code, dont remember what the number was, but it said evap system fault.
I'm at fix the cap. Then clear the code and then see if it returns....

Ask your neighbor for the code
