I'm car shopping with a small budget and have kept my eyes out for a Buick since they seem pretty reliable. I came across a listing for a 2004 used Regal that is lower mileage and looks pretty clean from the pictures. I'm hesitant to buy from a dealer, but I figured at least do some investigating.

What should I be looking for? Since it hasn't hit 100k yet, I'm guessing that the timing belt/water pump haven't been changed. Any other problem spots (maybe asking if they flushed the transmission fluid??)I should be asking about/looking for?
I don't know a lot about cars, but I'm gonna get a carfax and take it to my mechanic if that and a test drive look good. Thanks!

My 04' Regal has 350,000 on it now, most of it hiway driving, work was 60 miles one way.

There is a timing chain not a belt so no replacement is needed there. My water pump and trans are original. Replaced the intake manifold a longtime ago, this was a pretty common issue. Yes, transmission fluid is due.

I changed the oil about every 4k miles. Still got it along with my brand new 96 Roadmaster wagon which now has 70k miles on it, my retirement road-trip car.
