When you press the Start Button to stop or start your engine .....

.... do you hold it for a second or two until it starts up or stops, or do you just push it quickly and immediately let go and then wait for it to start? At first I held it in for a bit, but now realize it seems to start if you just push it in for just a split second and let go of it. Do you think it matters or was designed for one way or the other?
 
Once I hear it starting to start (that makes grammatical sense, right?) I let go.
 
IIRC Pushing the button does the same thing that turning the key does.
 
On many modern cars like this, it doesn't matter too much. If you press the button and release too quickly, it is possible that it will fail to start. However, on mine this never happens. If you press the button and hold it too long, there is a circuit that "cuts out" the starter motor in the instant that the engine lights up. So, it doesn't matter. Personally, on mine I just press the button for a standard time like a half-second.

I generally just touch the button. I've found that if I'm quick enough, my foot doesn't need to be on the brake pedal when I touch the button. I've got about two seconds to tap the brake pedal.
