For some folks out there, the idea of a factory-spec minivan making over 600 horsepower might seem a bit, well, far-fetched. Nevertheless, such a thing does in fact exist, and it even wears a Buick badge. Which leads us to ask – would you buy a 620-horsepower Buick minivan?
Of course, the vehicle in question is the Electra Encasa NEV, which launched in the Chinese market earlier this month. Offered as the Tri-Shield brand’s new flagship “villa-class” electrified MPV, the Electra Encasa is built on the Xiaoyao super integrated architecture, blending electrification, intelligent driving technology, and even some interesting health-focused cabin features (for example, humidity control and air purification), making it an excellent people mover.
However, what really sets the Electra Encasa apart is the powertrain. The minivan uses the True Dragon plug-in hybrid system, which pairs a turbocharged 1.5L four-cylinder engine with a rear-mounted electric motor.
