2017 Buick Envision AWD Earns 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score for Safety Rating by NHTSA

The 2017 Buick Envision AWD compact Sport Utility Vehicle has received a five-star total automobile rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This is an award accomplished by each Buick car or SUV evaluated for the past two successive model years.

Previously in 2016, the Envision additionally received the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) greatest achievable ranking, a 2016 IIHS Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) when outfitted with optional frontal collision mitigation. Today that ranking was expanded into the 2017 model year as the Envision with optional frontal collision mitigation and high intensity discharge (HID) headlights was awarded a 2017 IIHS Top Safety Pick+.

“Quality, safety and craftsmanship are designed into every Buick,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick Sales, Service and Marketing. “Attaining high rankings from a number of the industry’s leading safety associations proves not only the high quality of the Envision, but moreover establishes the Buick brand’s credibility as a pacesetter in safety and quality, two characteristics high on every buyer’s list.”.

The Envision affords buyers a comprehensive array of standard and optional safety capabilities, both active and passive. These safety innovations make use of a combination of five cameras and 13 radar and ultrasonic sensing units. These camera and sensors surround the automobile to provide drivers assurance and confidence behind the wheel. Envision also provides a robust body construction that comprises of thorough use of mass-reducing high-strength steel.

The Envision’s optional Frontal Crash Warning and Forward Automatic Braking systems, which can assist drivers in avoiding accidents, were crucial to achieving the 2016 IIHS TSP+ ranking. That ranking mandates an automobile to score “Good” on a wide range of IIHS crashworthiness evaluations and obtain an “Advanced” or “Superior” rating on frontal collision mitigation, which was a new IIHS criteria for 2016. The 2017 IIHS TSP+ ranking calls for an automobile to be worthy of “Good” scores in the crashworthiness trials, an “Advanced” or “Superior” score for frontal collision mitigation and a “Good” or “Acceptable” headlight score.

The new Buick Envision reached dealerships in North America this past summer and is off to a positive start with over 10,000 vehicles sold thus far. Typically, the Envision remains on a dealer lot for just over 30 days, less than half of the market norm.

Storm Watch: Buick Makes Getting Around Bearable

2016 Buick Enclave Tuscan Edition

DETROIT – 08.28.2015 – As Tropical Storm Erika makes its way toward the Southeast, residents of Florida and the Carolinas are preparing for the storm to make landfall. While vehicle technologies can neither prevent flooding nor restore electricity, Buick confidently forecasts they’ll help make getting around more bearable:

All-wheel drive (AWD): Vehicle control is everything in wet conditions. The beauty of all-wheel drive – available on the Buick Regal, LaCrosse, Encore and Enclave – is it automatically senses when there is a loss of traction and sends power to the wheels that need it. The driver does nothing.

However, as smart as AWD is, it’s no substitute for common sense and adhering to local emergency laws. This includes avoiding standing water. According to the National Weather Service, two feet of rushing water can carry away most vehicles including SUVs and pick-ups.

StabiliTrak: Electronic stability control has been proven to be one of the most effective safety innovations since safety belts and air bags. Buick’s standard StabiliTrak system helps drivers control their vehicle on wet pavement and uneven road surfaces.

StabiliTrak works by recognizing when the vehicle is in an understeer (fishtail) or oversteer (plow) mode. Sensors detect the difference between the direction the driver is actually turning and the vehicle’s response by “reading” the steering wheel position, the amount of sideways force, vehicle speed and how the vehicle is turning.

If necessary, the system automatically applies precise amounts of brake pressure at individual wheels and reduces engine torque to help safely put the vehicle on its intended path.

IntelliLink and available OnStar 4G LTE: The only thing worse than a hurricane is being isolated in one. Buick’s IntelliLink infotainment system pairs with owners’ mobile phones to provide safe, voice-activated connectivity. That means they can keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel in the event of trouble.

IntelliLink builds on the safety and security of OnStar, which enables subscribers to access emergency services through the push of a button. OnStar advisors are emergency trained and have access to up-to-date information that can help guide drivers to safety or get help to stranded customers. If you’re caught on the road during a flash flood watch or warning, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recommends drivers stop and seek higher ground immediately.

Available OnStar 4G LTE in the 2015 LaCrosse, Regal, Verano and Encore provides additional connectivity, including a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot that can be used as a mobile hub to keep in touch with friends and family during a power outage. OnStar 4G LTE can connect up to seven devices through a simple, seamless high-speed connection with a powerful antenna.

2011 Buick Enclave Earns IIHS Top Safety Pick

Highest possible ratings achieved in all Insurance Institute safety tests

DETROIT – The 2011 Buick Enclave today received a Top Safety Pick designation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety for all models built after January this year.

“Car buyers shopping for safety get a big head start with vehicles earning our Top Safety Pick designation,” said Institute president Adrian Lund. “This award highlights the elite group of vehicles that earn top Institute safety ratings across the board, and that have electronic stability control.”

Vehicles named Top Safety Picks must achieve the highest possible IIHS ratings of “Good” in front, side, rear and rollover crash protection tests in addition to having electronic stability control.

The Enclave previously earned a 5-star overall vehicle score under the revised New Car Assessment Program (NCAP) administered by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The 2011 Enclave has a comprehensive safety system designed to protect passengers – before, during and after a crash.  Before a crash, active safety features like StabiliTrak electronic stability control with rollover mitigation and Panic Brake Assist help drivers avoid crashes. When an emergency braking maneuver is detected, the Panic Brake Assist system automatically develops additional brake pressure to more quickly engage antilock brakes, potentially reducing overall stopping distance by eliminating the delay that can occur if a driver does not brake hard enough and/or soon enough.

Technologies like rollover sensing, six standard air bags, front seat safety belt pretensioners and load limiters help protect occupants during a crash. Pretensioners reduce safety belt slack, and load limiters moderate the load of the safety belt on the occupant in a crash. Both safety belt technologies work together to help keep occupants in place during a crash.

All Buicks, including Enclave, feature the safety and security of OnStar technology. After a crash, OnStar’s Automatic Crash Response alerts first responders to get medical assistance on site as quickly as possible.

“The Enclave’s Top Safety Pick Award clearly demonstrates our commitment to protecting customers and their families,” said Jeff Boyer, General Motors executive director of vehicle safety. “We stand behind Enclave and the variety of active and passive safety technologies it offers – all engineered with precision to meet the high expectations of our customers.”

After posting its strongest sales in history in 2010, the Enclave is on its way to another strong year, with retail sales up 45 percent in February compared to the same period in 2010. Total sales for the luxury crossover were up by 38 percent for the month, outselling the Acura MDX and RDX combined.
