A couple things about the 2012 Regal GS...

Well I don't have the green to pay for what the GS should be, its Opel OPC cousin with the Twin Turbo 6 and AWD. That is a $54,000 car without tax in Europe. I will be content to chip the Standard turbo to 250, throw on my Opel and OPC bits and be glad I was able to obtain a german tourer at a price that is very good value. Now the question for me is whether I'll see 6speed Manuals come in anytime soon.... After my lease is up, I will keep it if it has been reliable AND gas is still under $4/gallon, if not, then I'll be driving an electric Fiat 500.

Yeah, the way I see it, and what I think was one of the main reasons for what the Regal is now, and that many people don't notice, is the simple fact that GM didn't want their Buick Regal going into Cadillac territory in terms of price and performance. They seem bent on making sure that if people want a luxury roadster, looking for world-class performance the CTS or CTS-V is what people should be looking for.

I mean, that's the thing, the car that the GS was supposed to be (300+hp, 300ft-lb, AWD,...etc), was probably going to end up being a $40-$45k car and it just wouldn't gel. If people are looking for all that, they can just get a CTS AWD 3.6L, people seem plenty willing to pay $45-$50k for a CTS. So I think people will be willing to pay $35k-$40k for a Buick. I mean, I talk to my Buick dealers on a regular basis and the T07 Buick Regals are flying off the lots at $36k. Clearly this car has a market and the GS will have its market too if it provides more for a small premium. So GM's mindset is that the Regal is aiming at people looking to get a car with similar amenities and luxury, but at a lower price (hasn't Buick always been this way?).

Don't get me wrong--I was plenty pissed at the changes made to the GS, but I couldnt complain too much if the price is right. It has a lot to that car that I like over the competition., but we'll have to see of course, what GM is going to do with its price.

Wow!...

Looking back at this thread...Seems like I wasn't too far off with the prices for the GS..:

So, I'll go out and say, the GS will start between $35,795 and $37,740. 😛

Damn I'm good. :headbang:

I've hyped up this car for such a long time, that even though I decided not to wait on it, I suppose one of these days, I'll still give it a test drive--just to satisfy my curiosity!

Nobody was expecting a Cadillac CTS-V but people were expecting something competitive with the Infiniti G37. Not really all that much to ask for.

They may not be expecting a Cadillac CTS-V, but what about the new Cadillac ATS? I have been bouncing back and forth between a Regal Turbo, Regal GS, or a LaCrosse. But now I think I am going to wait one more year and see if the Cadillac can bring what I want. From the rumors going around it seems as if the base model ATS will have the same 2.0l Turbo as the GS, some say it may be tuned downed to 250hp but most believe it will have the same 270hp. Also it will have the 3.6l engine as an upgradeable option. Oh by the way the ATS will be rwd with an awd option thats pinning the new alpha platform for GM.

From what I gather it will have a starting price of around $32k, I am guessing with some options and awd it will be about $38k-$39k. Thats Regal GS price territory with rwd/awd and the same engine.

I just dont get why the Regal GS can't have awd? Its not going to cannibalize sales of the ATS because it will only match the base ATS model. Also 2 different body stylings and interiors and option. Your talking about a loaded top end version of 1 car being equal to the bottom low end version of the next tier up car.

With those options I am leaning toward the ATS, however if GM did the right thing and added AWD and/or RWD to the GS and the only thing to differentiate the base model ATS or GS I would take the GS because I like the styling better.

with a tune the turbo would put out numbers very camparable to the GS the rest just looks cosmetic...

The ATS probably will be a very fun car to drive - especially the V-Series. If you're not already a member of CadillacOwners.com you can see lots of information here:

Then again, you may have come here from there anyway...

I'm sure we'll see LOTS of tuners offering products for the Regal GS. It's not going to burn up the streets but being an attractive, sporty, luxurious and very comfortable car - I'm sure it's going to sell quite a bit. Cars like this are going to bring Buick enough revenue to move to the next level.

Suspension. Huge difference. The "GS" mode on the IDC is GS-exclusive.

Seats and steering wheel may be considered "cosmetic" to some, but they're a big part of the driving experience.

Remember the 'hiperstrut' in the front. That is a significant difference.
