2004 Park Ave. 2008 Lacrosse super
I just bought myself a 2008 lacrosse super yesterday. Man what a car!

I feel very lucky, I didnt know what it was till after I bought it. I thought it was a sharp looking car, so I made a deal and drove it home. What blows my mind is the fact that only 2277 were even made it 2008 (only 139 in 2009)and I found one completely by accident! I bought it to be a work car, but now that I know how rare it is, I feel I should put it into the garage and only drive it once a month! I borrowed money to buy it and it looks like Ill have to go get a beater for work instead!

For those who asked about supers, Ill tell you all about it.

PROS.
1) OMFG does this baby run!!!
2)The handleing is fantasic
3)Looks so good I would marry it if I could find a way to make it legal!
4)It quiet has a tomb even at highway speeds. No rattles, wind noise....NOTHING but the sweet roar of the small block purring away!
5)Did I mention it runs good?

CONS
1) I am spoiled by my park ave. and got very used to automatic wipers, which the super does not have.
2)No HUD....which is weird for a car like this...it wasnt even a option. Once you drive a car with it its kinda hard to go back.
3)rear seats arent heated, much to my wife's misforture cause she didnt like to cold leather on her ass when we broke the back seat in! (she got over it quick)

Now for the rest....

Its black (the most common on this uncommon car)
It has the sun roof
It has the good wheels.
It doesnt have the in dash CD changer (doesnt bother me much cause CD's are on the way out anyway)
Gas milage is pretty good (if you stay off the peddle, which can be hard to do) gets about 19 around town and 27 on the highway.
The salesman told me it was sitting on the lot for 6 months, which is a shock considering what it is.
Has 33277 miles on it.
Found it in central PA.....which means in the middle of no-where!

Any one has a questions feel free tp ask, Ill answer them the best I can.

Cool car, looks there are approx 54 of them for sale on cars.com

Congrats.
I was bummed when Buick didn't introduce a Super for the new LaCrosse.
They are rare birds. I don't think they sold exceedingly well because of the relatively high price and poor handling for a car with such sporting overtures, but it's a true wolf in sheep's clothing when it comes to acceleration. What a great engine. Always loved the woven seats too.

Enjoy.

Rarity does not always mean desireability.
That small block Chevy engine should be good for at least a couple hundred thousand miles so I say drive it! That's why it was made.
You want to store something in your garage get something that will increase in value......preferably not long after your loan is paid off.
I've seen similar attempts at storing 'special' vehicles. The Oldsmobile 'Final 500's' come to mind. Lots of those out there at ridiculous prices.....and not selling.
Also, most of the mods available for the Grand Prix (think suspension) will probably fit the Lacrosse as well since both are 'W' body cars.

I cant say that the car has "poor" handling at all, and in fact handles very, very well, when compared to my PA, or DTS.
For a Buick, again compared to a DTS and PA, the ride is hard, due to the stiffer suspension under it, but its a small price to pay for the performance and "g's" it does in curves.

Compared to Park Avenue or DTS, I'm sure it handles very well. All that really matters is that you enjoy the handling.

Congrats again on the new ride.

Thank You sir, and I do and will enjoy the hell out of it!:headbang:

Continue to. I'd use it as a daily driver, not a garage queen. Cars, with rare exceptions like Ferrari's, are depreciating assets.

It is a rare model, but i can't think of any American sedans in the last 40 years that are considered collector items years later.
Perhaps SHOman can weigh in, as the original SHO is the only car I can think of that would come close, and that car was much more impactful since at the time the M5 was the only performance sedan alternative.

The GN and the GNX (only 547 out there) are now worth far more than the original sticker value, even with inflation. Just looked in hemings and saw GN's going in the 20 to 30 grand range and gnx's going for 80 grand+.

There were far, far more GN's built than supers, so I think, these cars will go up in value at some point of time. How much only time will tell.

But this one will get driven, at least has long has the warrenty is in, even the extended that it has too. After that, Ill put it away and forget about it for a decade or so.

With only 2416 supers ever built (2008 and 2009), and more than likely no more will ever be built, and figure that a number will get wrecked or parted out, there will not be many at all in 10 to 15 years, so it would seem to me that they would almost have to go up in value anyway you look at it.
But, I could be wrong....if I go by my investment history (stocks, bonds, etc) I will be very wrong!

Time will have to tell. In the meantime I will have a lot of fun with it!

The GNX was world class car at the time, acceleration wise. The Super is quick for sure, but nowhere near the relative superiority of the GNX at the time.

More importantly they are coupes. There are plenty of coupes and convertibles that end up valuable from GNX's to 1979 Firebirds.

There just aren't any sedans. People who pay big bucks for nostalgia want the cars they dreamed about as kids. Those always are 2 doors.

The only sedans built since muscle car era ended that have collector value I can think of are some Aston Martins, early M5s, and some AMG Hammers from Mercedes (before MB bought AMG), and perhaps the big 6.3L merc sedans of the 1970s.

That's a lot of years, and a lot of cars. Sedans just aren't typically collector material. Perhaps the Super bucks that trend. I'd just be more inclined to make that bet with a Caddy XLR-V.

I got to this thread late because I know nothing about Lacrosse Supers. This thread is now the extent of my knowledge, although I did read a little more about it just a bit ago. Sounds like that was a very nice package! All I can say is congratulations and have fun with it.

But…I did notice a reference to SHOs….and I am very familiar with them

Car & Driver called the 1989 SHO “the fastest 4 door sedan in the world for under $20,000 dollars” when it was introduced. Bone stock, they all went 6.6 to 60 and topped out at 143 MPH. The Yamaha engine was a jewel and won many awards for design and innovation

Sadly….Ford chose to put it in a sub standard platform. I’ve been told that the original engine was set up for 300 HP..... out of a 3.0L . Pretty much unheard of in 1988. Ford was amazed to find that the contract they had with Yamaha produced an engine that moved the bar so dramatically. At that time the 5.0 pony car was not much….but Ford couldn’t have a Japanese engine faster than the pony…so the engine was de-tuned to 220HP and a contract for approximately 80,000 engines was put into place (against the wishes of the head Ford purchasing guy at the time who didn’t think it was wise to mix Yamaha in with Ford in this area. He is a friend of mine). Thus the patrician Taurus became the receptacle for this amazing engine. I bought it strictly for the engine and ran it for almost 100,000 miles. I got as high as 32.5 MPG at freeway speeds with our SHO. Normal highway MPG was 28-30. 19-21 around town.

The SHO famous 'Nest of Snakes'

Sadly from a collector standpoint, I don’t think its destined to be. I think many hoped it would, but I don’t see it so far. If any were to be, it would be the GEN I ….1989-91. More so the 89. I have a friend with maybe the nicest 89 in the country. In fact, Ford wanted him to bring it to Chicago for the unveiling of the 2010 SHO at the Chicago Auto Show. Reality for most old SHOs is that they sell dirt cheap…and yet the jewel stills beats in these old cars. Too bad Ford didn’t realize what a unique piece of engine history they bought into and put it in a better platform….but they didn’t have one. Ford did themselves no favors when they made their own small block 8 SHO for the 96 model year. In order to have competed with its foreign counterparts...that engine should have been in the 280-300 HP range. Instead it was 240 HP if I remember right. .... the 1988 designed Yamaha 6 was just as fast....what were they thinking??

The BMWs…3s&5s had a much better pedigree and balanced system

The Buick GNs are collectors no doubt

Do you mind posting some photos of your 2008 LaCrosse Super on here? It'd be great if we could see some.

Marry Christmas to all.

This is an old post that I wanted to kick to the top and see if any new numbers have surfaced. I have written a piece for the Buick Club of America (BCA) Bugle on late model performance Buicks.
After submitting the article, I got interested in the production numbers and I am finding different numbers from different sources.
A good example is the 08-09 Lacrosse Super. The GM Heritage Center says 299 in '08 and 140 in '09. Another source is at 2277 for the '08 and 139 for '09. I ask the Heritage Center and the second source to recheck their numbers and they say they are correct.
Either way it was a low production car, and with the number of '08 Supers listed on different sites, the 2277 number may be correct.

Let us know what happened. I rarely see this model or even CXSs. Mostly, I see CXs and CXLs. I think Supers might easily be less than 5% of any of the LaCrosses (Allures) made in the 2005-2009 model years.

Alright here's an update! I have sucessfully bought this baby the other night! From a younger dude about my age out in the booneys (grass lake twp mi) got for a steal @ $6,250 and drove it! This baby by all means looks showroom clean minus some little dings/scratches and absolutely ZERO rust. Immaculate interior, freshly cleaned and detailed. 35% window tint all the way around! Original floormats unique to the super! Two sets of keys, magnaflow exhausts/headers/ (can't think of the name lol) CAI tune, pushes easily between 325-335hp! Undercoated/debadged except for the "super" emblem on the rear deck lid. Also has the trunk floor lined with sound deadening for the exhausts! Pics to follow below!!
