I'm only keeping these wheels until the Spring/Summer of next year so I thought I'd have a little fun and experiment with a new look .. tried to take some pictures but this process was TIME CONSUMING and I wanted to get it done as fast as possible .. took me 6ish hours and one VERY sore finger later from the spray cans LOL for anyone else looking to try this I will write my process down before the pictures ..

Clean wheels the day before and make SURE they are very dry before starting .. I detail cars on the side for family and friends so I have a pretty high power blower for gaps and crevices so I make sure everything was good .. you can use any degreaser but I chose to wipe down the wheels with the "pre dip" bottle they sell at dipyourcar.com .. once wiped down I taped off the front of the tire leaving a tiny gap between the rubber and wheel to allow a good bond to the wheel .. the color I went wish is Anthracite Gray and is one of their new true metallic colors .. it has some good flake in it but it's also 10 dollars a can compared to 5ish at Home depot .. so, I bought a few cans of black, 6 cans of anthracite from DYC and two cans of glossifier .. I ended up putting 5 full coats of black on each rim following by 3 full coats of Anthracite and 2 coats of gloss .. the more coats you do, the easier this product is to remove down the line and the better the finish tends to look .. sorry for the wordy intro but I figure this may get asked so I'd answer now lol

I thought you had said you were gonna do something colorful?

Looks good anyways

I really like this color. ive been thinking about doing mine but making it look like the OPC wheels.

You going to do center caps? I like it...might go back to gloss black

I think I'm leaving the center caps for a little .. I wanted to leave a LITTLE silver to not be so muted but I bought this thing called rim blades .. they adhere to the lip and give it color .. I got it in silver so I'm not sure whether or not I'm going that route, leaving this for now or painting the caps eventually .. right now I think it's alright .. the black on these rims look pretty nice too just don't know how I feel on black with a gray car ya know ??

was going to try blaze purple or gold but my gut said go this route for now .. might catch a TON of flaming for a bright color like purple or gold lol

That's what it was. Gold would have looked awesome on grey! Purple woulda been cool but I'm sure it would lose its luster and wanted to peel sooner.

funny thing is I have like 8 cans of gold and 8 cans of purple because I couldn't make up my mind on which to use lol worse case I could literally just clean and spray over this gray with a new color and there's no issues whatsoever so it's kind of a win win for me right now with the initial coats done and all 🙂

I kinda like that! I may go this. But I have no experience with this stuff what so ever.

no experience needed to be honest .. just do light coats for the first few coats and then you can lay it on pretty good without consequence .. I watched a lot of youtube videos including those from dipyourcar on their personal youtube channel and they basically give you any and all techniques and advice needed .. also dipyourcar has a forum you can visit for a LOT of advice and chatter

good group of guys .. best part of this product is it can be bought it gallons and sprayed on the whole car if you wanted .. I'm still not over the option of doing a custom blue or burgundy color to mine in the Spring lol just buy the cans at home depot for 5 dollars if you're getting black .. if you're going another color order from DYC because they carry a few exclusive colors .. this product peels off if you mess up or don't like it so you really can't lose lol good luck

I really may look into that! I think i may do what he did. My rims are a lot different than his are! Thanks for the reply!

I did my wheels over the weekend as well in prep for winter... I only did the front side, took 3 cans total....

What color is your car ? Smoky Gray or listed as something else ? Looks good with the black .. I was afraid of it not popping right but apparently it does lol good work bro

came out really good !! I love this plastidip product lol wish I had rims like yours though to hide the barrels more but mine would have shown everything and my OCD made me have to go through a LOT more work and one very sore ass index finger lol best part is if I get bored of the anthracite I can take the wheels off and just spray right over everything with black or whatever color and it's perfectly fine 😱

Viola - throw some tire shine on the car and snap a couple new pictures

I was going to do this a couple months ago even painted my.calipers blue to go with the plasti dip .. but ended up not doing it.. this makes me wanna redo them

U did a perfect job though.. wonder how these would hold up with winter coming

That's what my car would look like with the plasti dip on.

thanks bro .. I'm gonna wait at least a week before putting tire shine on just because I want to make sure it has enough time to settle ya know ?? the thing DYC always stresses is to make sure there's no tire shine or dirt before dipping especially the tire shine so after a week I'll put a little loving on the tires and snap more pics lol I did, however, take a picture tonight ha I swear I'm actually starting to "like" this car more now that it doesn't look like everyone elses 😱 still probably trading her in within a year for a GT500 or an STI but I'll try to have fun from now until then haha
