Hey all,

Coming back out of winter hibernation--trying to button up a few last issues on the '01 before taking it in to the exhaust shop.

When I first bought the car, both seats moved in all 6 directions (forward/backward/front up/front down/back up/back down). I figured this was a good sign, because on my '98 the passenger's seat on slides forward and backward (the motor just spins when you try to use either height adjuster). My understanding is this a fairly common failure (stripped plastic gear).

On my '01 something not normal seems to have gone wrong with the driver's power seat. the forward/backward adjuster and the front up/down seem to work fine, but the rear up/down adjustment does nothing. There's no click, hum, buzz, or anything.

Could this just be the switch? If it was one of the gears I'd expect to hear the motor spinning whether the seat moved or not.

It sounds like the motor 84ZZ4 - but I was on Nalley looking at the adjuster parts diagrams and I don't see that they sell the motors separately. The whole units were like $700 - ouch.

Sounds like a trip to the salvage yard might be in order.

Are there actually three separate motors? I can only see two in the picture I found.

There is a lumbar motor along with the height and forward motors. You can try Morad auto parts. If they have them they'd probably be reasonable. If you don't find it here, http://stores.ebay.com/Morad-Parts-Company Try sending them a message.

According to my '98 manual, there's actually 5 motors per side: Front height adjustment, rear height adjustment, recline, forward/backward, and seat belt height.

I've verified that everything but the rear height adjustment is working fine, including the bolster and lumbar adjustment (which appears to be a separate system). I hear a click and the dome light dims whenever I try to use the rear adjustment, but no seat motion or motor noise.

Does anyone know if the motors are interchangeable between the five positions or if they vary by year?

It's been a couple of years since I checked into mine, but I'd swear the motors were all the same. If you can get to the motor plug, unplug it and check to see if you get voltage when pushing the corresponding button. If so, the gear may be bound up on (a broken tooth?) or the motor is locked.

The front height and rear height are definitely interchangeable, I think from 97-05. The forward/back setup is different. Cannot recall on the others.
