We all know that the back seats can unlatch and fold down forward, thereby opening the trunk space to the passenger space.

Isn't this a big weakness for trunk security? If a thief can break a window to get to the passenger space, then he can fold the back seats down and have full access to valuables in the trunk. This is quite a bit different from any other car that I've ever had.

Is there is some way to lock the back seats into the normal position?

Or, do I need to wedge a sheet of quarter-inch steel in the way to prevent trunk thievery?

My Grand Prix had a fold down rear seat with entry into the trunk. It makes up for a smallish trunk if you don't have back seat passengers.

OP: you are worrying too much, if they smash the window you have bigger issues at hand...

Since a thief can't see into the trunk it's a 50/50 shot. Does he go through all the effort to break a window, lower the seat, just to discover the trunk is empty? Probably not. He'll look for a vehicle with something visible first.

Perhaps you are considering all thieves to be human. I was thinking in terms of a hungry Yosemite black bear. The bear might smell the leather back seat and decide to snack on it. Then he might discover goodies in the trunk.

You are way over thinking this.... They sell Harley Davidson's now with no key. Animals are smart, far smarter than we give them credit. The piginick basket in the trunk, as yogie would say, is simply not worth the energy needed for the payoff. Humans... Stupid. Will stop at nothing to get what they want. If you go thru life every day worried about the what could happen... You will miss the good stuff completely absorbed in the potential bad that has a low probability of coming to light.

And after the bear goes to all that trouble to get to leather, he says to himself, "oh no, I want the real thing, not that stuff that comes off a roll."

When you pull into the parking lot throw a pack of hotdogs under a vehicle several rows away.
