2010 Buick lacrosse.
So I've bought an Intellilink system with the DVD player and Hard drive, as well as a screen. I have bought a GPS antenna, and a Twinax cable, and for some reason when I plug everything up, the screen won't turn on and show any display activity. I can't hear or play the radio, the controls for the radio doesn't function. Is it that I need to get it reprogrammed to fit my vehicle perhaps? I've spoke to a dealer and they want $110 plus tax to reprogram it, but I'm a bit reluctant to do that if it doesn't function.

Those units are VIN-specific and need to be reprogrammed to work in your car. If your dealer is willing to reprogram units that weren't part of your original configuration, and do it for only $110, that's a good deal.

To your question of whether it will work - as long as the units are compatible with your model year, and the programming to your VIN is done correctly, it should work fine. Gear that wasn't available for the 2010 model year may not work at all.

So if it isn't programmed then it will show a black screen or no video at all?

The question is how did you find out if the new unit would actually work on your year? Unfortunately while it may check off all the logic boxes the GM radios are not a one size fits all, as a example Enclaves are part of the GM trunk family so the unit from one may not be compatible to a car install. Some upgrades will only work on specific year ranges as the car wasn't setup for the option during a model year.

If the pins matched up, the battery was disconnected during installation, fuses checked and it's a unit from a known match for your car, working prior to your purchase and it is a confirmed upgrade, then it could light up. On some older sat/nav it's somewhat narrow window of what can be swapped, so I hope yours is just a dealer programming update.

I have it set to be programmed when I get from work tomorrow, the dealer said that it has to be inside the car at the time of the programming, as well as it'll show a black screen or no video at all in a car it isn't programmed to. Bluetooth still works, but that just leads me to believe that there is a separate Bluetooth unit outside of this box itself because it has my phone still saved.
So if I'm able to make it to the appointment I'll let you guys know the status.

Good Luck.....I upgraded my 2011 CXS to touch screen. It was a PITA.....but it is nice now that it is done. I do not have intellilink, just the factory touchscreen for 2011.

So, did the reprogramming work???
If so, please let me know what all you replaced and or added with the new unit?

Bluetooth is built into the OnStar module.

The dealer said the unit needs to be in the vehicle to program? Huh?
MVI does it differently

I am thinking about buying a navigation unit from scrap yard and installing it, then having a dealer program it.

Dealers don't have the provision to program line replaceable units directly. They need to go through the OBD connector which means it has to be installed.

Make sure you can find a dealer that will program it before you buy anything. That's out of the box thinking for many techs. Most simply deal with infotainment units that have their programming wiped by the radio shop which simplifies programming.
