I leased a 2019 Encore and by 300 miles the car stopped needed towed with stabilitrak light comes on. Dealership said nothing was wrong with the vehicle, said the car mat jammed the brake. Ok. Then about 1 month later 700 miles. Car did the same thing but this time onstar sent email saying a problem was detected problem with stabilitrak and braking system, service vehicle immediately. Had the car towed again, dealership said nothing wrong with the car that It detected I was driving with 2 feet and it shut the car down. Ok. Corrected the 2 feet driving. 10 days later I received an email identical to the first, this time I pushed the blue onstar button and got diagnostic report. It came back with code co 161 Brake control switch. Took the car to the dealership,they say nothing is wrong, no code , so won’t fix and GM deemed the car ok. Not able to qualify for buy back. There are only 1093 miles on the car. It has broken down 3x since Sept 1.
Anyone out there with this problem?

I have not heard of this. Did you show them the diagnostic report? Try a different dealership. Also contact a regional Buick rep. Review the lemon laws in your state. Your car may not yet qualify as a lemon as defined by your state (every state has a different set of qualifiers). It also would not hurt to get a legal consultation. Usually the first consultation is free.

I have shown them the diagnostic report. I am in contact with GM and as of yesterday they closed the case because they say that the dealership can’t pull any codes. Although the car shuts down each time, they say I was driving with 2 feet, which I had corrected. At this point I called Onstar this morning to see why they’re sending a code when dealership can’t find the code. I still have loaner car now for 16/days. I’m almost at the point with lemon law in my state of PA. 3x in for fixing and dealership has had the car longer than I’ve had.
Waiting for the dealerships response, trying to switch it out Ugh..

Not sure what to do next. I forwarded all the emails to Gm from Onstar I can’t find any documentation anywhere that driving with 2 feet shuts a car down. They said Toyota had a problem years ago. Can’t find that either. Onstar documents the code co 161. Which is a brake control switch. Dealership claims they only get the code that I’m driving with 2 feet. By the way, they refuse to give me that code.

I see 2 problems here. How did the floor mat get in the way of the brake pedal? Did you fail to secure the factory floor mat, or use a replacement floor mat that was not secured?

There is nothing inherently wrong with using the left foot to brake. However, modern vehicles are not designed for this. I think the problem is that you are hitting the brake pedal and accelerator pedal at the same time, which is generating a fault.

Toyota had problems with people pressing the accelerator pedal instead of the brake pedal. One of their solutions was to disable the accelerator pedal whenever the brake pedal was pressed.

The mat was secured, but a rubber one was placed on top of it as I’ve always done on my new cars. The brakes were working fine, it was definitely underneath the pedal, I corrected that by purchasing official Encore mats between fix#1 and fix #2. I’ve driven new Equinox’s for the last 12 years. This has never been an issue. My last one was a 2016. As far as using 2 feet, I’ve driven that way for 48 years. Again I corrected that between fix#2 and #3. So I guess I can’t drive cars past 2016! I am disabled now and can't be breaking down in the cold every 2-3 weeks,so I don’t know what I can do.

I would advise you to contact the dealership to get this worked out. They will not advise you to drive it if it is not safe or some other issue is occuring.

I am also having this problem code co161 with our 2019 Encore with 57500 miles. My dealer said we are either driving with 2 feet (which we aren't) or the brake position sensor is going bad. I already ordered the part but I wanted to see if anyone else has used this fix or other info.
