GS to GSi Convert

talking to the german tech. I need the wiring and door panel switch....the camera can be activated via software once all cameras have been installed. He will provide me the software to give the US tech to install. As soon as get the wiring will install and from my understanding the folding mirrors will work automatically, it is only the cameras that need activations!

I will post the results once I got everything working
Thank you very much for the information! I can't wait for your post and to see your built once you are done!

@GranSport2019 thank you that is a very detailed list...love it and, thanks for the advice I will send them an e-mail. So much want for that spoiler!!

Small update. Opel Key FOB receiver part# 13508410 (doesn't come with an uncut key) 433M does work with the GS. Programmed and fully working.

here is what i have so far on my conversion:
center console with SS on/off: currently at the dealer for activation
folding mirrors with welcome light and camera; have them but not installed need the wiring
edelbrock SC have it but it is not installed due to intake pipe rerouting
front grille with camera
real tail lights with amber turn signal have them not installed

Need:
taillight wiring from GSi
front bumper with side sensors and front wiring for parallel parking
rear spoiler

Talkt o me about the front grill and camera - is this for parking or are you talking about the ACC system?

it is for 360 camera when backing up or just 360 view

@Lt0302 I'll be really interested to see if you can get the stop start switch to work in your vehicle, because that would be great to be able to have a factory disable instead of the aftermarket solutions.

The dealer cannot do it because GM will not let them. So I will have to get the software from Europe for this also!

I don't suppose they (your German source) can provide the Opel graphics for the infotainment centre/instrument cluster. Just wondering aloud...

@Anaduff if what you are talking about it changing the Mylink infotainment start up screen and background screen to the Opel, Vauxhall, or Holden start up it's possible that your current unit already has that data stored on the system. However, I am not brave enough to mess with the system and brick my Mylink infotainment. Here is a youtube link on how this guy was able to access his Mylink infotainment for his Sonic and it does show that the start up screen for the Holden version of his car is saved on the system and how to change it to the startup screen. I am also not sure what the password would be to get into development mode. possibly its the same as the video? if you do decide to explore the Mylink infotainment please do share! 🙂

😁 Have already entered the developer mode (I've got the 'new' style HMI module, aka 'Intellilink 3' which is an Android Auto system atop a Linux OS) but haven't been able to get a computer (running the Android Debugging Bridge) to access anything on the module. We're only about 18 days away from getting the service manuals from Helm (🤞) & I'm hoping there will be something in there regarding it.

Actually, I don't even know if the European Insignias (or Austrialasian Commodores) use the same Harman HMI that Buick uses, so the 'foreign' software may not be of any use. But hope springs eternal (even in winter).

For anyone who is interested, I have another update.

The high gloss black trim has been installed as I have completed the black package.
For anyone interest the Appliques (those fake windows) are removed from the outside easily. removing and installing the new one should take about a half hour and can be done with using a plastic wedge carefully. My only warning would be that they are two retainer clips holding the piece in. These clips can easily break so take your time.

At this point the exterior as been completely rebadged with the black package, the spoiler is installed and I have the Opel key FOB functioning.

All I have left for the exterior is to paint the rear calipers red.

I also started on the interior by installing the GSi door sills, as well I currently own the GSi seat badges which I am doing some research on how to swap them with the current GS badge.

I also started working on the air bag cover project, but I am in need of a spare Buick airbag cover which has been hard to come by without the airbag attached.

Other notes I also obtained the value covers/caps for the tires, GSi Floor mats, as well as first aid kit/roadside assistance kit.

I am also still trying to track down the GSi Gear Shift Knob as well I am waiting on someone to figure out the infotainment system so I can safely boot it up with the Opel logo.

I am not sure if I am missing anything.

My goal is to have the car completed by May of this year.

thank you

Good looking build! Was the black door trim as easy to install as the appliques?
I currently own the GSi seat badges which I am doing some research on how to swap them with the current GS badge.
Back when I made my "GS" MAXpider KAGU floor mats in this post, I used the GS badges from the seats. Here's a picture of the back side of the badge:

It's just a straight tab and my guess is it's designed to be used with one of these metal trim clips and popped into place:

Like the applique removal you explained, it will probably only require a good pull/pry.

Yes the door trim was just as easy. I tried taking a picture of the back of the chrome, but couldn't get a good quality picture.

Nice job on the "GS" MAXpider KAGU floor mats ! they look like they provide way more protection then the GM laser cut ones I purchased.

I must thank you! I saw your post on the 3D's Seat Defenders and I purchased them. They fit and work great thank you very much! I wish I saw your post sooner I bought a crappy rear seat cover that just doesn't work.

It's nice to see that the back of the "GS" seat emblems looks the same as the "GSi" I was sure they had to be as it would only make sense. as for the removal of the seat badges the guy at the dealership was unsure. they were busy that day and I didn't want to drive them crazy. I spoke to an interior place months ago and the guy suggested to me that the whole seat would have to come apart, but I felt like he was just saying that to up the price. I am going to do more research and get a second opinion. From the looks of it I would agree that you would be able to just pop them in and out with a good pry, but I don't want to break a part of the emblem off and have it get stuck in the seat.

What was involved with installing the GSI rear spoiler? Is it only held on with double sided tape or are there studs that go through the hatch that hold it in place. Also if you don't mind me asking what was the cost for the spoiler.

I had the guy who painted it for me install it. I believe it was double sided tape or glue, there definitely was no studs that go through the hatch that hold it in place.

Update:

Since last posting on this thread I had the rear calipers painted, which I posted on another thread the pictures.

I believe at this point for the most part the exterior is completed. I don’t think I missed anything, although it would have been nice to get the fold in mirror, I just don’t have the money at the moment.

As for the interior I installed the “GSi” seat emblems today. It’s a quick fast removal and install. Literally just give it a good pull and the emblems come out and pop the new ones in.

At this point all I am looking for is the “GSi” gear shift knob, switching the start up to the Opel logo etc, and to make a custom air badge cover, which I have been working on (very slowly).

I also order the center console storage compartment which I’ll be swapping out for the "cup holder" . I think it’s a better look and I already I have two cups holder up front anyways.

Besides that, I have on order the euro privacy shades.

I can’t think of much more that needs to be done.

Thank you

Apologies for rehashing such an old post but did you ever get the 360 degree camera system working on the infotainment? I havent seen this as something that White Automotive does but it looks like they can unlock all other features.

I haven't done anything with White Automotive or any software reprograming with this build unfortunately.
