Buick Ownership
2013 Buick Verano
Have a 2013 Buick Verano the paint on the hood roof and trunk appears to have a cloudy look to the clear coat and is bubbling and cracking around the sunroof. Has anyone here had that issue and does anyone have any advice on any recourse I can take to get this problem resolved? I have done some research on the internet and seen that other people have had similar issues and it doesn't seem that Buick is helping their loyal customers to solve this problem any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Have you taken it to the dealer yet? Best place to start if there has been any TSB on your year(s) regarding the paint they will be able to pull it up. I don't know if any of the warranty would be covered or if you have exceeded it on some level. GM did have a delamination paint issue in the early 90's, got a used car painted for free on that deal thank you GM, but couldn't say if something else has come up on your year and model.

There are detailing and body shops that may be able to rescue it depending on the depth of the problem, it may be worth a trip to a few to know what your options are.

There are those who will be diligent in caring for the exterior of there car with doing proper detailing, washing and waxing. Other who will only do a car wash as they can't see the color of car anymore when they are looking for it in Walmart parking lot.

You can do a Google search to see if other GM owners of the same year have had a similar problem. Sometimes it does narrow down to a vendor supplied product and may be a certain month(s) or assembly plant that was affected and not the entire production run.

What color is the car?
Would be interesting and maybe beneficial from a TSB/warranty standpoint to find out if it is any one particular color(s) that are failing or if it is "just" a clear coat problem.

It’s happening with all colors. It just more noticeable on dark colors. Buick cut corners in the painting/production phase of Veranos and we are left to deal with the consequences years later. It is not automatic car washes causing this and it is occurring all across the US in all weather conditions. The only fix is to have it repainted.

I actually had an insurance adjuster come out and look at my car because I honestly thought it was cat scratches. It was denied because he said it was a paint manufacturing issue. Of course I didn’t believe him so I went to a reliable paint and body shop and then to a paint specialist and then to the dealership body shop where I bought the car and they all said the exact same thing “clear coat failure”. It starts on the hood, roof then the top of truck .....basically all the areas with direct sunlight. It’s awful. I have everything documented but by the time I got the actual cause my warranty had expired a month or so before. I had brought my car into the dealership for other warranty related things and inspections but none of them documented anything about the paint. They usually only inspect things that you make them aware of and at that time I didn’t know it was a manufacture issue to make them aware of or do I think it is something they ever look at from a warranty view. This is a manufacture problem which should be completely separate from any warranty issues.

I have the same issue. Took it to get it detail and said it needed new paint on hood and roof. Two body shops said unusual for the age of car.

Same issue happened to our buick verano..mine is blue.we also thought it was our cats that did it because it started on the hood of the car witch cats like to lay on ..then we noticed the roof and with time the trunk...looks horrible

Same problem with 2017 LaCrosse Premium. Blue Metallic paint. Only fix is to repaint hood, roof, trunk. Expensive to do but car only has 33K miles.

I too have a 2017 Buick lacrosse Premium. Ebony black. I was told by GM that there have been no complaints, so there are no recalls. I would not be able to get it corrected because I am outside of bumper to bumper. Has anyone heard anything about this issue?

We are also having the same problem with our 2016 Buick LaCrosse. My car looks horrible!! We contacted a local detailer and he said that the clear coat w as s completely destroyed on the majority of the hood, roof and trunk. He told us, that until very recently, he had a notice from GM stating that there was problems with the clear coat on GM products. He said that they had at that time 2017 or so, that there was problem and gave a number to call. There was also a class action lawsuit for this problem. They keep reminding us that we purchased a luxury car, so it stands to reason that we would not need a paint job after 6 years. I'm very frustrated 😠 anyone else have this problem???

I have the same problem, same locations on the car - hood, roof, trunk. Took it to dealer where I lived in FL, they required me to take it to the dealer who I bought it from in NY. Did so. Dealer searched GM records for list of recalls for paint failures. They told me it looked like I had damaged it with a product or car wash. Not the case at all. It was exactly like the other cars with the same problems. I referenced Buick Forums, other cars noted with same pattern of paint failure. They required me to take it to their body shop. Body shop denied as a manufacturer issue. Buick denied any record of such problems and declined any assistance. Seems it depends who you are whether they choose to help or not. Sad. Real. Paint failed within 4 years - dark grey. Very sad.

I have the same problem with my 2017 Lacrosse. Clear coat mostly gone on hood roof and decklid. Looks horrible but I love my Buick. Called Buick and they offered me a "goodwill offer" of 30% of cost to repaint the 3 areas. While I am thankful for the help, I worry what will happen to the rest of the cars paint. I've never had a car whose paint deteriorated so fast! I would like to have the entire car repainted but the paint and body shop mgr. said that a total job would cost 6k to 8k or more! I will not spend that much money on a car with less than 50k miles on it. I had a similar issue with a 2007 Toyota Camry that had a melting dashboard. Toyota did not respond because the car had almost 37k miles. To this day I will not buy a Toyota because of cust. service. There was eventually a recall on my Toyota that I had already traded in. I will get the repair done with their offer and have to have something done to the rest of the paint to preserve what's left. Trade in maybe on another make?
