Good luck getting ahold of him! Hasn't been logged in in 2 months! He's still alive, as I just got an Email from him.

Hell Cory,

I update my CarDomain page EVERY SINGLE DAY...

"Good luck getting ahold of him!"

WTF?

Just send him there....

...that's where I am 😉

I was looking it over the last few days, nd was pretty damn impressed with the added stuff! I can tell thats what you devote your energy to. It looks like it's really paying off. You couldn't just have the Greatest Roadmaster in the world... you Had to go and have the Greatest CarDomain in the world, as well! :icon:

so cory your sayin its probably a bad idea to try and pull the 1/4 top off then?

Thanks to all for the useful info.

I've had problems with water in my trunk
since I got my '94 Roadmaster 7 years ago,
and I've spent a lot of time with tubes of latex
trying to plug up every hole I could find.

It seems to be something that was inherent
in the original design of the car.

A shame.

I have to ask what and how do you go to your page????not good with computers.
my 1993 buick roadmaster lim leaks all over it seams like, my son and I have put silicone up on top of seam about a year ago and stop the leak on the inside rear roof buy the window but the trunk still leaks I am going to use that flowable silicone and maybe that will do it. My 1994 Buick roadmaster lim dose not leak at all yea.

Mine leaks around the passenger side tailight area, near the interface with the tailgate. The water runs directly into the spare tire well without passing go. If you had the spare cover on you would never detect it. If the drain hole was clear (mine wasn't) there would never be a problem and it almost looks like it was designed that way.

Wagon leaks

I've found the following trouble sources on my RMW:
1 Roof. There is no way around removing the inner roof and sealing the screws that go through it. In fact, mine were so rusty that I had to remove them and install new rivets (there are threaded rivets installed in the roof that accept the screws from above). Before that, I tried installing o-rings from above as seals. That was a really bad idea. Water will follow the roof arrangements and be lead down at the screws. If there is an o-ring there, it will make sure that the water has no other way of escaping than down through the screw/threads...😱

2 The rearmost, opening windows. The cast rubber that goes around it does a really poor job of keeping tight. I suspect it was bad already from the factory and only gets worse as the rubber ages. I ended up siliconing the windows shut.

3 Left well (opposite the spare tire) was an aquarium. There is a small drainage hole in the forward end of it, but mine was filled with body sealer. I drilled it out and now it drains properly. Of course, there should not be water coming in in the first place, but there will always be a certain condensation that needs to be drained.

4 Rear left door weatherstrip (same on the right, obviously...). Water from the roof will follow the weatherstrip and finds a neat little way in at the rear upper half, where it is leaning, so that water will gravitate in rather than down, if the strip is not 100% tight, and follow the strip on the inside down. Water will follow the floor under the doorstep forward and get sucked up by the carpet. I park my car in a down slope and the water ends up in the carpet under the pedals. No pools, but enough to keep the carpet moist.

Still not desert dry, but this took care of the big parts.

Cheers,
/Chris

I took my "new" RMS on our first family trip last weekend. After parking the car for two days where it had been sleeting and snowing, I opened the trunk to put our suitcases in before coming home. The rear passenger side of the trunk had a mound of ice frozen to the carpet. I found the trunk gasket pulled away in the top passenger corner (closest to the rear window). I also found that the power antenna gasket was unseated. Fixed those two issues when I got home. Two days later we got another rain/snow storm. I checked the trunk again, and although the waterfall had been slowed to a trickle by fixing the gasket and seal, I still have a problem. The water is dripping from the body seam that is underneath the upper passenger net hook. The water is coming out of that seam and dripping off the hook. When I look in the channel above where that seam is, there doesn't seem to be a crack in the paint. I guess it could be running down from above somewhere. Is there a gap between the outer and inner trunk or is that solid? I may have to seal those body moldings like it was suggested above. It's only on the passenger side that it gets wet at all. I'll keep you posted with what I find.

Glad someone added to this thread, forcing it back to the top after 2.5 years. I have two RMS' and both have wet trunks (rainy Oregon). Main problem is, I just notice a wet carpet. No obvious sign of where the water is coming from. Sounds like I have an uphill battle, but appreciate all the tips.

Yes...all 4 of my Roadmasters and Caprices trunks have leaked. I put 100% silicone glue in all the rear trunk seams down the gutters and everyone in between. Is working right now on my 1994 RMS. Really a hit or miss thing. Bad design on the crimps and welds of the trunk.

I've only had my '96 for about a month, but my trunk's always damp, sometimes worse. I thought it was the trunk seal, cause when I got it, the seal was pulled loose due to shrinkage. After I got the seal stretched back into place I thought I was done, but of course, it still gets wet. Thanks to you guys, hopefully I can get this thing sealed & dry, cause I like to keep my tools & coveralls in there, and rusty tools are not cool, and neither are wet coveralls. THANKS, ADAM

Well if I can contribute. I never had any water entry since it had not rained when I first bought the car. I did start looking around for rust spots, and found a few in the water channels under the roof racks.

I sanded the spots down, put some rust covertor stuff on it, and siliconed over it. I still had a small leak on the left side near the sail window. Testing in specific area, I found it was the seal around the side window (where the little chrome trim goes). I snugged up the bolts around the window on the inside, but did not help. Not sure if there is just a gasket in there, but it looks like it has sealer in it.

So, I got some black rtv sealant and went over the area where I test and it leaked. It hides pretty well on the black trim around it. No leaks yet.

I also had some water coming in aroud the spare tire well. I got rid of the mat sprayed the whole area with undercoating. My tire well was not rusted at all surpisingly. The drain hole was open and water is going through it. I don't know the source of entry, though I know its up higher. When I reinstalled the roof rack, I did silicone all the bolts, so I don't think its there.

I am glad to see these posts because I have owned my 93 Roadmaster sedan for 17 years and noticed the trunk carpeting being damp after it rains. I removed the rubber Buick trunk mat and got the nondescript carpeted one from a 96 Cadillac Brougham since it has layered matting and would dry better. I replaced the trunk seal with a thicker GM one that fits the same way from the side (instead of the old way of pressing on the top). The new trunk seal came from an 01 Camaro which had a very long rear window seal with an extra lip and I thought it would have helped, using black silicone adhesive around it. I also removed the real panel below the rear window and carefully sealed the rubber at the bottom of the window. Then I removed the plastic upper C pillar exterior trim and also used silicone adhesive. After all that, it still leaks! I even used sealant on the inside weld seams near the tail lights, then removed the tail lights and added small rubber washer seals to the small mounting bolts. Still has a leak at the part closest to the tail lights on each corner and when it rains hard enough, it spreads. I noticed this again when we had a hard rain last night here in VA. I had the trunk lid open all day long in the nice warm sun and decided to adjust the lock latch so the trunk lid will close closer to the seal. I hope that works because I dont want any rust issues in the future. Geez!
