Second attempt at Range Technology Start/Stop device-- not good

Anyone figure out the reason why Range Tech doesn’t sell/support the ASS on the TourX anymore? (Actually, I think all GM models with the 2.0T LTG)

"Hello,

We unfortunately do not have anything available for the vehicles that are equipped with the 4cyl motors. We may further on down the road, but nothing currently. Thanks.

I can only assume they must have had some issues with the device and the turbo 4-cyl motors.

Glad I got mine when I did. Hopefully they will sell them once again one day.

FWIW I'm pretty sure the Range Technology units they are selling are the exact same ones they sold for the Regal 4cyl last month. It carries the same part number(RA005) and I'm almost sure it would work the same. I just think RT is being extra cautious with the reports that some 4cyl vehicles are temporarily going into "reduced engine power" mode while the RT device is plugged in.

I think they are just being cautious and are no longer *officially* supporting the 4cyl.

My opinion-- if you ordered one today (RA005) it would work under most circumstances--you just would lose warranty/tech support. I think there is miniscule chance of any engine issues with use--and those would be solved by simply unplugging the RT unit and restarting the vehicle.

**this is just my educated OPINION, not fact and any use is at you own risk**

You are probably right, because when I purchased mine it was not listed on RT website, the one I've got was RA005 I believe. Works like a champ!

My RT is still working after several months and several thousand of miles.

I emailed the company that makes the smart stop/start device that is put under the hood. The reply was that 2020 Regals had minor electrical changes and their product no longer works. I have officially ended my search for a Sportback and am now looking at CT5 which has a built in disable switch.

That's very depressing news--especially for anyone with a 2020 model.🙁

CT5 looks like a nice car, I'd consider one. Personally, compared to any Sportback but a GS I'd go for the CT5.

Hmm, that is strange. I bought my Start/Stop device from Range Technology last August for my 2019 Regal Sportback (4 cylinder). This was after I emailed them to confirm it would work on my car. They assured me it would, and the drop-down that listed available vehicles was actually for the gas saver device (because that device shuts down several of the cylinders).

The Start/Stop device has worked perfectly for me since then (12,000+ miles). But I now see that Range Technology has changed their website since then and it theoretically does NOT cover my car anymore. It does appear to be the same device however. Has anybody emailed them asking for a clarification as to why it changed from last year to this year?

When the company that makes the module emailed me he said that there were some changes made in 2020 electronics and I suspect your device was also affected in that way.

Thanks shs92645. Looks like I got in under the wire... 🙂

The next radio update after 22.9 should have an option in the menus to disable auto start-stop. That would be the best solution.

Sadly, it is more complicated than that.

I'd wait a couple of weeks--the new owner may change their mind...
