Acceleration comparison. Videos of 0-60 AWD and FWD

And my Regal has frontal crash avoidance so it won't happen in the future either LOL
Hope yours actually works...mine doesn't. Seems like bad idea to rely on that to keep you out of trouble.

Mine works great, it's applied the brakes quite a few times that a vehicle pulled out in front of me and I didn't have time to react. And I don't relay on it to apply the brakes if I do have time to react.

Out of curiosity, did the braking start during or after the audible alert? Mine will stop alerting and still no braking, I am not willing to wait any longer to see if the brakes will be applied so I dive on them but the system seems useless to me. Especially when you watch the videos of how it is supposed to work.

With my car the system applies the brakes after I hear the audible alert, and only if I don't press the brake pedal quick enough when I hear the alert. Also an animation of 2 cars crashing into each other appears in the driver info center at the same time I hear the audible alert.

I believe the system uses the adaptive cruise radar to determine when to apply the brakes. So if you don't have that option on your car the system won't apply the brakes automatically, it will just give you an audible alert.

Yep, still off topic...
But, I think someone with a GS here said it worked for them on a traffic circle once.

I get the notification often but too chicken to find out if auto braking actually works.

It also seems that if you have a larger gap selected (ACC), you get forward collisions alerts earlier. The two shouldn't work together that way, but it does seem that way to me.

Has anyone noticed this also?

You are correct, the following distance selection does have an effect on when the system applies the brakes. And it also determines when the brakes get applied when using the adaptive cruise, since both systems use the radar on the grille to know when another vehicle is approaching.

The auto braking with the ACC is pretty good. If you are in a slow traffic situation it does a good job of keeping distance and braking and accelerating to maintain spacing. It will bring the car to a complete stop. It's slow to get going again but that's easy to fix.

A while back I read a braking test and the fwd Sportback outbroke the GS. And stopped I a shorter distance than a bmw540 and a Audi A4 too.

0-60, 0-100, 1/4 mile, horsepower are what most of the manufacturers and media focus on followed by cup holders, infotainment systems, USB ports and braking tossed in as a by the way it also stops.

Gratefully vehicle's are becoming better in this area as while some people may know a vehicle limits, they forget the biggest flaw is that of the limits of the person behind the wheel.

Look at any automobile manufacturer, automotive magazine or tv show, but I can't recall to many starting out advertising or doing review with the opening line "Introducing the new XYZ that does 60-0 in 5 seconds flat, see it at your XYZ dealer today!" just isn't exciting enough for sales and marketing. Maybe painting the calipers is a consider a brake upgrade by some I guess LOL.

I was looking for a TourX 0-60 video but I didn't find any. That would be great as a comparison with the Sportback.

My BS alarm went off the hook upon reading the following specs.
The wagon is LIGHTER than the sportback? Really?? :STFU:

Motorweek, good bad or indifferent, is one of the few who show 1/4 acceleration with stopping distance. It's usually a fair assessment for how the vehicle with the package that they are using / given may do in real world usage. If how fast a vehicle is on the Nürburgring and that's one interest of vehicle selection I have no problem with it.

Yeah that just doesn't seem right, specially since it indicates the AWD TourX is lighter than the FWD Sportback.

Maybe that weight for the sportback is for a fully loaded Opel version and the weight for the TourX is an actual weight after the bean counters stripped out all the features. J/k...well kind of

Car and Driver did a road test of a 2018 Sportback Essence. On their scales, the curb weight (full tank of gas, other fluids filled but it no driver a passengers, or cargo) was 3427 lb. They got 0-60 mph in 5.7 sec; quarter mile was 14.2 (IIRC) at 101 mph.

That makes sense cause I was on a scale at work with me in the car and 50 pounds in the trunk it came up a bit over 3,700... I weight 220 car is a fwd preferred II.

These numbers sound way more legit, given our Regal's platform mate, the Malibu Premier's curb weight is 3,223 pounds.
