On our 20 encore we had the code trip for the po299 code took it in under warranty and they told us the intercooler had moisture and oil in it they cleaned it and sent us on our way now almost exactly to the day it did it again and now they say it’s the same problem but they are going to charge us $1300.00 to fix it and they told us this happens and it might do it again. The car only has 38k miles on it. Any input would be great. This was bought new at the same dealership we took it back to.

The causes for the code mention nothing about the intercooler.

I assume the moisture froze in the intercooler causing a restriction? How cold was it when this occurred? Is it parked outside at night?

Where do you live?

I live in Wisconsin, it happened when it was around -28 deg , yes it was out at night unfortunately.

You will want to run the "winter front/cover" in those temps. GM part number 42697332. And be sure to take it off in warmer temps to avoid overheating. (it blocks airflow to intercooler/radiator). These are backordered for GM right now - but you can find one on ebay.

This is what i got from a GM/Buick dealer, Jan 31/2022 CONCERN - P0299 stored in ecm as current. Found water in cac and intake manifold. Needs to be cleaned out. Boost sensor needs to be replaced as well due to moisture. (and to do this for about $1300.00)

Jan 28/2021 P0299 stored in ecm as current, found oil and water in intercooler, Removed intercooler and cleaned out water and oil. cleared dtc's. all good. Almost 1 year to the day it happens again im a bit leary of this dealership. This was under warrranty at least.
They also never recomended the cover oregon_rider posted the part number for. Thank you btw
