03 Buick Lesabre hard shift thud after driving 20 minutes/transmission solenoid??

Yes they did it without our authorization. Which is strange because we have used them before several times and they have never done that before. Yes I think I will do that, tell them to install the shift kit for free. The pan needs to be dropped to install the shift kit right? Sorry if that is a dumb question, not quite sure of the answer.

The shift kit goes in through the pan that faces the inside of the LF tire. Cost me $50 for the kit and another $50. to install it. Had it done on my 2001 Custom at 73,000, but not yet on my 2005 Limited at 121,000.

The shift kit gets installed through the bottom pan. To get access to the solenoids in the side cover the subframe needs to be dropped. That would be a lot more than $50 in labor!!!

So there is a shift kit AND a solenoid kit? Whatever he did my mechanic ordered the parts and charged me $103 last summer for the 2001 Custom. He told me that the Limited needs solenoids and that they are inside the side cover. He didn't say how much work he had to do to change them.

Well I got the shop to put the shift kit in at no charge, they were cool about it, and no hard shift anymore 🙂 thank you all for suggesting the shift kit!
