Buick Ownership
1988 buick riviera t-type
lost my brakes, the pedal went to the floor, I replaced the high pressure accumulator but it did not help. Does anyone have one for sale or
is there a place that someone can recommendo to buy one?.

Do I need to bleed the brakes or the accumulator for it to work ??,

I included a stock picture of the unit in my 1988 buick riviera 2 door sedan T-type

I was thinking of replacing that unit for a regular booster and a regular master cilynder brake and just leave the electrical lines disconected
and just be a mechanical unit like other buicks. can you guys comment on this thought. Thanks

That resembles the troublesome Hydro boost system that the Grand nationals use. Rockauto offers an exchange and rebuilt unit,

I'm sure you could probably convert it to a vacuum assist standard braking system without the ABS.

Thanks for your great info I appreciate your time to reply. yeah, they show the unit as been exactly like mine, I am going to contact them and then I just have to figure out how to coufgh out the $1k+ that it would cost me, jajaja.

TEVES MK II anti lock brake system

A very very complex and expensive to fix system
you should consider going to normal brakes /booster

Yeah, that is what I really wanted to do but it looks like its a complicated process since I saw a video somewhere about it.

you replace the master cylinder and you do brake lines + add proportioning valves

not really that complicated.. just an annoying process
simply put, do you want to pay a LOT of money to fix your system with a lot of failure points+minimal tool compatibility and etc...

Or you can have a simple setup. my 1990 olds has the oe setup. you have rear drums right?
if you do this change, rear disc would be a good decision but either way.

You can look at the diagrams for both if you want to see what it should look like. Plus you have to depressurize your system to ever open it, lol, neeed ancient tools to bleed it etc

Actually this 88 buick riviera has disk brakes in the rear, and more, it was a beauty ahead of its time when it came out in 88.
I might give it a go once I have all the info I need to do the job, the add proportioning valve and the brake lines should no be a problem, I still need to figure out the correct replacement parts, like the master cylinder and booster, which car information to give to the auto part to get the parts that will fit this buick. Thanks for your input.

heres an example
youll need a booster too. but this can help get the right numbers or idea of what you need

you wont need a proportioning valve and you would not want to use a residual pressure valve either
