Should I use this GM NOS AC Delco oil filter?

I bought this in a bulk lot (5 for $22) on ebay. I came across this filter when looking for OEM AC Delco filters and when this came up, I cross-referenced the numbers and it said it matches with the modern-day PF47E AC Delco filters. After sending one of them to a YouTuber who takes apart oil filters and reviews them, he sent me this message:

"I wouldn't use it. It has lots of filter media but it's on the thin side and it doesn't have an anti-drain back valve so it better be mounted vertically also no bypass valve so it was made for engines with their own bypass valves"

I just picked up this 3.8 '08 Buick Lacrosse CXL and I'm aware of them having a built-in bypass valve (unless I misunderstood?) and I know the filters are mounted at an angle from what I've seen in oil change videos, but what gets me is the filter not having an ADBV.

From my own experience, I've only had one other GM vehicle and it was a '94 SC1 where I used the cheapest oil and filters I could get for the 3000 miles oil changes and I never had a problem with it. For this vehicle, during the summer I plan to use conventional oil for 3K OCI and full synthetic for 5K OCI with a premium filter for these western Illinois winters.


What do you guys think? Should I toss them to play it safe or use them as I have planned?

Why gamble on the great 3800 engine?

Buy top brand filters from reliable sellers. There are lots of fake / defective auto parts being sold now so you can not be too careful.

To be clear, eBay and Amazon are unreliable; well-established local parts store or national chain will put effort into sourcing genuine parts.

That filter is 40+ yrs old. I had some in my garage that I cut open a few years ago and I threw them out. If you have matching air filters toss them too.

I was hoping to get some better quality OEM filters and the price was lowered by $3

That's for the 12X price. If I wanted to buy 4, it would be $3.36 each and with shipping included, it came out to $21.43 - a mere dollar less than what I paid for the 5 I originally got. I got them for $22 after being lowered down from $25. I was trying to get better quality OEM filters here and would've thought a british-made AC Delco oil filter from 30+ years ago would be of better quality than the current version. I guess I was wrong.
