The engine seems to running fine. No misfires. Revs up fine in neutral. The best way to describe the performance is it feels like you are towing a heavy trailer. You step on the gas and it responds, it just gets up to speed slowly. But once there it runs strong.

So on a hunch, I put the transmission in “1” and it started from a stop just fine.

I’m thinking it’s starting in 2nd or even 3rd gear when on “D”.

Any ideas?

Transmission filter and fluid was changed about 25k miles ago.

Going to get the codes scanned today so that may help.

You said you are having codes scanned, does that mean you have a check engine light?
Does the shop doing the scanning have the ability to diagnose the transmission?

I've got an Autel 906 scanner that I will use this evening to scan the codes. Check Engine Light is on, but has been on before this problem started. That's an entirely different issue. Although this issue may have triggered it anyway.

Hows your brakes looking? Drag? Can you jack up each tire and spin it? Sounds like its possibly a torque converter issue or engine is low on power(if not brake) I dont get the impression its starting in 2nd. If it slips just right, theroetically, I could see it seeming like what you said. but it would be more inconsistent feeling likely. how much ATF you have?
