Finally a module to disable the stop/start. I installed it last night and it works as advertized.Hooks to the negative terminal of the battery. No problems with remote start with this module. If you order one get the one for the Encore since it fits all the Encores and GX. Any questions email Steve. Smart Stop Start

I also hate start stop. How hard to install? Any pics?
Everything work ok? Do you have to mess with the
dash on off switch?
Tks

What is wrong with the start stop? I first want to make sure we're talking about stopping at a red light or busy stop sign and the engine turns off? I've had that feature on multiple vehicles and I find the GX has an almost unnoticed stop and instant start when you release the brake peddle. Study's have shown that if the engine is off for 7 second or more, you are not wasting fuel by idling the engine.

I'd love to hear more about this device, what it's for and why it's needed.

Hi 1daysale. I realize some people like the feature of stop/start. I'm informing those that dislike it that there is a way to disable it without having to remember to push the button each time you get in the car. My thought (right or wrong) is it puts extra wear on the battery, starter and the engine. Maybe this link will explain why I think this way. Have a good day. https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=stop+start+bad+for+engine

Auto stop has been around for a while. Real science and testing wins every time. Not that I like Auto Stop, I hate it. It's just really annoying more than anything else. But I have a lot of respect for Jason Fenske and his real world knowledge of engineering and cars.

My favorite quote, "It turns out engineers ARE capable of thinking about those things." when talking about the additional wear and tear. BTW, Encores with AutoStart also have an AGM battery.

I always enjoy watching engineering explained. I just can't believe some people are so annoyed by start stop. The mpg of the GX is already great to begin with and start stop just adds to the mpg. And it's not like start stop was an afterthought and added on last minute, it was designed with the extra starts planned. Anyway, picture is my fuel log app and I'm happy with what it tells me!Screenshot_20220203-171517_FuelLog.webp

Peoplehated auto stop so much it has costs GM thousands of sales when it not possible to disable it Very poor business decision overall..

They should Have at least put a 2 second Delay On the system so it doesn't stop the motor at every stop sign

After one year of turning ss off, it stopped working. Went to dealer to check, they said low
battery voltage and replaced battery. Car has AGM battery one should check battery voltage regularly. I will order ss module.
will order ss module

My wife's 2016 Encore battery was just replaced (OEM battery, 54k miles). Are you saying you got a message about the stop/start module? My wife's gave a message about the module being under voltage. Being a 2016 it needed a new battery anyway. No more CEL.

The AGM battery should be able to handle the load. That's what they are made for. I'm reading lots of issues with the OEM batteries they are using now. I hope you got something else.

I tried to leave ss on and it would not come on, no messages, figured something wrong. Dealer
figured low voltage and installed new AGM battery. I was later told that it takes many miles
driven for computer to reset ss. My car reads 12.3-12.5 vts. which is low, bought AGM charger
and cigarette lighter battery voltage readout.

Battery voltage should be checked with a multi-meter at the posts, 10 minutes or more after shutting it off. Using a cigarette lighter battery voltage reader is just going to give you inaccurate results because of the resistance between the battery and the cigarette lighter. It has to pass through several circuit boards.

You should not need a charger. If it is that low, they gave you a bad battery. It happens. It should be 12.6 or more, same as a standard battery, and it should hold that charge. Verify with a muti-meter. If it's low, take it back.

2 months since I installed the module and no problems. I'm very pleased with it.

3 months since I installed module and no problems. Very pleased that I don't need to remember to hit the switch every time I get in the car.

Coming up on 3 months with no problems. I rarely even think about. Very pleased with it.

Just got my 2022 Encore GX Preferred and it has a button to turn off the Auto Stop-Start
Yes, they all have a button to turn it off but the next time you start your vehicle up from scratch it will turn back on. What one of the commenters said is there's a module that can be added to the vehicle to automatically turn it off every time you start your vehicle so you don't have to press that button every time you begin to use your vehicle

I should read better, thanks. It hasn't irritated me too much yet.

It hasn't irritated me at all! I like it! When I'm sitting at a red light and it's been proven (do your own research) if your engine is not running after a few seconds you are saving fuel.

10 years from now when we are all sitting around a campfire having a beer talking about those who had the features on and who had it off and who replaced starters, I guess we will find out how much the new starter cost and if the fuel cost I saved to afford the new starter.

Starter life shouldn't be any different from non-auto stop vehicles. It uses a different, heavy duty starter. I'm not hearing about premature starter failures.
