Hello!

I recently came into possession of a 2005 Buick LeSabre Custom. It's my first car, and in all honesty, I'm loving how comfy it is. It has a majority of its suspension recently replaced, so many of those issues are gone, but I'm running into other trouble. I work at an auto parts store and have access to discounted products as well as many free tools. As said in the title, the most notable issues I want assistance with are my lack of air conditioning, hard shifts from 1-2 and occasionally 3-4, and my gas cap being constantly detected as loose.

Loose Gas Cap

This one is both simple and really not something I need too much help with. It's pretty obvious what the problem is, my filler neck is extremely rusty and falling apart where the cap attaches, and is probably causing most of the issue. It's also possible that there are other leaking areas in it. I mostly want to know a cheap but reputable replacement for it. I could buy it from where I work, but it's over $300, and I really want to avoid that if possible. I've seen some on Amazon for around $110, but I'm unsure of quality. Any advice on places to find them would be super helpful.

Air Conditioning Blowing Warm

Well, this one is self-explanatory. My A/C blows hot. The guy I bought it from said it needed recharged, which I figured wasn't the only issue and I was correct. I recharged it and it lasted about a day. I also wasn't able to fully fill it because for these cars need a bunch of refridgerant. A bottle that is normally $58 with a nozzle included is only about 20g, and this car needs nearly 36g. But, it was enough for the time and I could always buy more later. Well, it all leaked out. I then bought the stuff with UV dye, only about 12g, and couldn't find the leak whatsoever. I will say though, my compressor was making some interesting noises. I was watching the pressure go from 30 psi, go up to around 35, then the compressor would click and it would drop back to 30, then kept doing this. Over the next few days, I would check the pressure and it was slowly dropping until it went back to nothing. My best guess is that my compressor is bad, however, I'd like external input.

Transmission Hard Shifts

This is the legitimate concern here. The other two are mostly just inconveniences, but this is an actual concern. As described, the transmission is shifting pretty hard. I also picked up the P1811 code the 4T65-E transmission sees a lot. The main two things I have in mind is that the EPC is failing in some capacity and I need to replace that, or I can take the other route of buying one of those shift kits I've heard so much about. Now, before I make any decisions, I want to know what people a bit more experienced think. I've heard some great things about shift kits, but I'm concerned about the long-term implications of it as well as issues it can cause. As always, I just want more information from more experienced people to get assistance with working on this car.

This car is so far working great other than the issues stated here. My only other issue is my O2 sensor, Bank 1 Sensor 2, but that's not really something I need help with since it's pretty simple. I can get that part for pretty cheap as well as tools to do the job. For now, this is all I have for anyone interested in helping, although I'm sure it won't be the last issue I come here for. If you have any advice, please please please let me know. I'm really loving this car and want to try and preserve it for as long as possible. Thank you!

Correction on the refrigerant, I meant ounces, not grams. It takes about 998 grams according to the fluid specs I could find.

Transmission
From my experience it's probably gonna be the EPC/PCS.

You mentioned that you have a code for the upstream O2 sensor. Please tell us the specific code. I’m going to assume that it’s a P0171 code which would point to a vacuum leak and NOT the O2 sensor itself.
As far as your hard shifting that sounds like it could be easily remedied with a tranny pan drop, filter change and a TransGo shift improvement kit.
As far as the Loose Gas Cap message it sounds like you have a handle on that.
When you post on a forum it helps to list ALL of the codes by their numbers and not descriptions. You have many knowledgeable people here to help you.😉😎

This one is already handled, otherwise I would have mentioned it. It's the that the downstream sensor needs replaced, and I'm able to do that. I don't remember that code off of the top of my head, but I already looked into that issue.

If it’s a code for the O2 sensor heater then a new sensor may fix it but if it’s a P0171 or P0174 then you have other issues. Please list the codes when you get a chance.

Don't have an opportunity to get the actual code, but I know it's neither of those. If I remember correctly, it was P0036 and P2A01, but not entirely sure. Regardless, this is an issue I don't need assistance with, just something else to toss in because I felt like it.
