Looking @ buying a 1996 Park Avenue Ultra with 21000 miles.

I sold these GTS wheels about 10-yrs ago with polished center caps with 90% tread on the tires for $350 & bought the Lucerne wheels with BFG T/A radials with the same amount or tread for $450. I think that was worth the $100 upgrade!

No cracks @ all in my tires & I took a 300 mile highway trip @ 70 mph & it was as smooth as glass.I will switch out the Dexcool & tires as soon as I get 16 " Grand Touring Wheels .You think I should change the compressor oil too or with 22000 miles on the car is it ok for a while?
It’s probably fine I’ve never changed that on any of my vehicles

Ok, drive tires that everyone including experts say are unsafe. Do nothing to the vehicle at this point just turn the key and head off down the highway as you apparently have already made up your mind on what to do. Please let us know where you operate this vehicle as I would like to avoid the area at all costs.
Thanks for your adult toddler crying. Let me know where you operate yourself and vehicle as I'd like to avoid you in general.

Sure thing, but the next time you are sitting in your vehicle on 90/94 highway for over a hour and half waiting for a family to be airlifted out because a idiot owner figured that they could operate a unsafe vehicle maybe you may have a more mature view.

Not to start a bun fight here I took the Buick to 2 respected tire shops & both said despite the age the uncracked original "Gold Seal" tires were still useable & they would just drive them which I have done without issue for 2700 kilometers .Now that I have the 16 " GTS wheels they will be replaced.

I don't want to join into a tire war either but 26 years old for a tire is way too old for use. Stay off the highways and use them low mph local grocery getting. Have you ever tried to use a 20 yr old rubber band sitting in your desk draw? Think of your tires that way going 80mph down the highway.
Also I would stay away from the two shops that said 26 year old tires are safe to drive on. Maybe ask them to stand behind that claim and put it in writing.

Glad you have new tires, but the older ones age from the inside out and unless they were dismounted and inspected that would be the only way to confirm. Did these shops do a internal inspection or just glance at the outside of the tires and say they look good for 26 years old. Hopefully the person inspecting these was older than the tires and car lol.

It's science not opinion and just how a vehicle looks great from the outside it's the inside components of the drive train, brakes and suspension that need to be inspected.

Replace all fluids as suggested previously. Don't forget the brakes and power steering.

My tires had plenty of tread and no cracking on the sidewall but they were six years old so I treated the car to a new set of Contis. I’ve had a blowout from old tires before and flats so why take chances? Glad you’re getting new tires.👌

I too, have had a blowout. My case, the tires were only getting to the age where It would be wise to think about it come next spring kinda thing, and, well, the condition was midlife, yet, I had a blow out. Lost that car because of the damage and got a scar on my face from kissing an airbag.

OP, period, your tires are NOT safe and they are a danger to others and yourself and your car. As long as you accept that liability risk, then its your personal choice to use them or not. Its not a debatable subject. just please make good choices.

also I think that dexcool is the best option based on how clean your coolant tank and the coolant is. you should replace the cap since the spring and seal are original, at least thats what I would do. I prefer the caps with a lever on them so you can depressurize and open them if needed

What's my view? @2007LucerneCXL. My point was you seem to be pretentious pr$%k and a f$%king fossil that likes to cry because you're a boomer. It has nothing to do with tires, just your ride on your high horse.

Tires are the weakest component in any suspension. Period. Raquel Welch still looks good from a distance, but I doubt she has the the same performance specs she had in 197
Maybe because tires are not a component in any suspension. What the hell are you talking about?

perhaps we can all be friends

Don't confuse the issue with facts over Silvermist's opinion LOL.

Oh is this what the kids call a rant, sorry I'm old and don't know LMAO

1996 was the first year for the Series II? I would preemptively replace the plastic cooling elbows around the alternator bracket with aftermarket aluminum ones such as those made by Dorman Help! found in most auto parts stores.

Thanks for advise.I noticed this issue on the internet & wondered if the Dorman elbows now have good "o" rings supplied or what should be used instead so no leaks after replacement.?
I would need to have this done by a shop so anyone know expected cost or time involved? Do these elbows catastrophicly fail or just start to leak? Is failure common on a low mileage car like mine or due to time being almost 27 years old.

Thanks in advance for any help.
