Today I wanted to jack up the rear end of my buick lucerne 2006 cx 3.8 litre engine car.

I wanted to jack up the rear end of the car with my 3.5 ton floor jack and then lower it down on some wooden blocks I would like to put underneath the tires.

The pinch welds on the rear end that the car manual suggest to jack the car up have alot of rust and corrison and I don't think they would hold up to a floor jack lifting it up.

Is there a safe place I can put the floor jack to lift up the rear end of the car safely so I can proceed forward?

I don't know how wide the pad on your 3.5 ton jack is but mine is just wide enough to go to both sides of the exhaust cut out on the rear support. If you can't do that go for either side of the support... Hope this helps

Possible the rear suspension to body mount location would be in good condition to use as a lift point. I've used various frame to body mount as jack lift when the regular area wasn't available, but used jack stands to support and for safety purposes.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I am planning to do the rear brakes this week and I came back to this thread I made.

I took some photos of the rear of my lucerne while I had it up on some rhino ramps.

I just like to know is this the rear suspension to body mount in the photo I have highlighted?

Here is a previous on the subject
Thanks so much for the posting this. The diagram really helped. I was able to jack up the rear end of the car and get the new brakes installed. Took the car out late last night and got the new front and rear brake pads and rotors bedded in.

Appreciate your help 2007LucerneCXL.

Anytime, enjoy the drive

I’ve had a similar issue with rust on pinch welds, and I totally get your concern. I was in the same boat with my older car, and I decided to use a different lifting point to avoid putting too much strain on the rusted areas. I found the rear differential or the frame just ahead of the rear wheels is usually a good spot for a floor jack—just make sure you're lifting from a solid, flat part of the car. That said, I also ended up using a scissor lift for a more stable and controlled lift. It made the process so much easier and safer, especially when dealing with rust.
