My check engine light came on and found out that my Valve Cover is cracked and needs to be replaced (car is just at $35k). Due to the fact the part is on back order (could be 2 days could be 2+ months is what they told me) they want me to take my car and drive it until the part come in. My concern is if there is a possibility for additional damage to the engine if I drive it for a few weeks/months, they said the only thing that may happen is I may burn gas more quickly and the car may stall (waiting for answer if it stalls will it start up quickly or will I be stuck in the middle of the road). They normally would cover a loaner car for me via their partner Hertz but due to the possible length of time they will not be offering that. I is still under warranty which is good, just concerned with possible additional damage. Has anyone else had this issue.

You have a valid concern if additional damage may occur. Have the dealership contact GM and have them document it that your vehicle is safe to operate in this condition for a unknown amount of time and they meaning GM are responsible for any possible damage, parts and repairs that may be caused by this.

I wouldn't take the word only from a dealership service person, getting it documented covers you if something comes up now or in the future. I have found that when something is requested in writing sometimes the mindset of the answer changes.

This has just happen to my '18 (30K miles). What was the result? Was it covered?

Yes it was covered but I also had a secondary issue which to much air was going into the system which made it feel like it was “skipping” and they had to make some additional adjustments. Lucky it was all concerned crazy this happened with such low mileage

If the valve cover was cracked where it seats to the Head it would be leaking oil so I assume it's cracked near the top. If I knew for certain the crack was near the top I would still drive it. If the engine is leaking oil do not drive the car.

Our engine on our 2017 Cascada sounded like the serpentine belt (fan belt) was squealing, but i was told at the dealership that the sound was a faulty valve cover. It was under warranty, even being two years past the end of our warranty because the replacement part was defective also. It would have cost us $1,600. Go to your dealer and find out if you can replace the valve cover which should still be under warranty

Is this valve cover plastic or aluminum?

my daughter has a 2017 and her pvc valve was faulty after only 45000 miles. cover cost me 1000$, there is obviously some faults in this cover. i can not believe there is no recall on this cover, god for bid it fails again. keep posting, buick needs to honor all these problems with the cover.

Did you look at the extended warranty on this issue and the possibility of a refund. I assume the work was not done at a Buick dealer.

no it was not, changed it myself ,dealer wanted 2 grand -part was 1000.But we researched all options, including possible recalls.also spoke with dealer and said no one else has complained of such a problem and of course was just beyond the warranties .

I bought a 2018 with 39000 miles on it. Drove it home, about 3 hours. The next time I drove it (about three months later-it was at a different location than me during the winter) it was sucking air and it had a high pitched
squeal.
At stops lights I was getting some strange stares. I had two problems. The squeal was the purge valve. I think they are about
$40 to $50 not sure. I changed mine and the squealing stopped. But then when I turned the car off, I heard a sucking sound, actually more like an air gushing sound.
I was fortunate to find a 2018 that was a CPO car, so it had a 12 month bumper to bumper warranty. I printed out the TSB bulletins
and put the bad purge valve back on.
The dealer fixed both problems under warranty.
I tried to get them to replace the discolored engine cover but they wouldn't. I had them check to see if the overheating problem had been fixed, because if it had been repaired under warranty, a new engine cover would have been part of the fix.
They told me that it had been fixed and that I may hear the cooling fan run after the engine was shut down.

Apparently there is a class action for the 2016 pcv issue. Im at 70,000 miles on a 2018 but not fimdimg a recall or class action. Anyone have a 2018 issue?

Yes, we have a 2018 Cassada with 13679 miles.. Just started the squealing noise and a sucking sound at the PVC in the valve cover. Just called GM, I was told there's no campaign for the defective design on the PCV / Valve cover. How can another class action be started ?

Yes, we have a 2018 with 13,700 miles. Do we have to do a class action also to get this covered ?

Were you able to get the defective valve cover, covered by GM ?

My 2017 Cascada with 77K miles on it started the squealing sound yesterday. Immediately started looking around on the internet and found that this is a known issue and appears to have affected 2016-2018 year Cascada's. Dropped it off at the dealership last night and they called this morning to let me know it is in fact this same issue with the valve cover and pipe. Quoted me over $2000.00 before tax. I can clearly see that on the 2016 Urgent bulletin that went out to all dealerships and my quote from the dealership today have the SAME REPLACEMENT part needed for this fix #55569508. How is Buick not covering this? I was told the only recall was for the 2016. Down right shameful!

How did you get Buick or the dealership to cover this? Going through this issue right now. Dealer quotes over $2000.00 before tax. Called Buick and they said only the 2016's were on the recall. The Urgent Bulletin that went to all dealerships on the 2016 has the same replacement part number on my dealers quote today.

I now have this issue with my 2017. Thinking we need to band together and file a new class action lawsuit! Shame on Buick for only covering the 2016’s. I’ve seen online that numerous people have had the same issue with 2017 and 2018.

I am experiencing same with same and 47k miles. Note the PC Valve is integrated with the valve cover. It is very unorthodox location / method and creates substantial additional labor costs. Foolish design really. I am curious how frequently this occurs. Researching further, hope GM may address.

PC Valve part of valve cover. PCV system sucking vacuum / whistling .

Per vid: via GM Parts Giant $525 vs. via GM $850
