Buick Ownership
2011 Lucerne CXL
Hey Everyone. I have a 2011 Lucerne CXL with the 3.9 Engine. I just got the car from my mom who had passed recently. She had purchased it Pre Owned with 30k miles or less on it from a very reliable and reputable dealer in Milford PA.

In the passed several months since owning and driving the car I would get tranny slips when stopped at a light etc.. It doesn't happen often, just randomly and only when starting from being stopped. I was wondering if there is a recall on this transmission and or some sort of fix for this transmission etc such as Lucas Transmission Fluid or perhaps just a transmission solenoid.

I checked the fluid levels and it is fine. I suppose I can do a full service on the transmission as well. Any help would be appreciated. The car is in pristine condition. So if I eventually need a transmission I would most likely get it rebuilt.

It has the GM corporate 4T65E transmission and lots of information on problems posted on the Internet.

Fluid and filter change is probably the first option and while the pan is dropped adding the larger magnets would be advisable. Not saying it's a cure but it's the most basic thing and then see if the problem is resolved.

Age of the vehicle is something to consider on components not just mileage, so all fluids should be reviewed including brake, PS and coolant if they haven't been done.

I'm sorry about the passing of your Mother. That car looks to be in beautiful condition! I would start with a drain and fill of the transmission fluid, upgraded magnets and a new filter. You can also add some lube guard transmission fluid protectant to the new transmission fluid after you do the service. Just don't overfill.

Thank you for the condolences. Yes the car is a cream puff no doubt. Rides amazing too. Just a shame this started to happen. I'll take your advice. Most likely will do a Transmission Service.

Can you elaborate more on the magnets? I'm new to this idea. Firstly, How would you install the magnets and which magnets are recommended. Thanks

The information on the magnets is in this post:

The magnets are available on Rockauto and Amazon.
