1968 GS 400
Recently purchased a 1968 GS 400 convertible. It has four newer tires but I despise the whitewall stripe on them. Looks unimpressive for a true muscle car. Anyone have any ideas without spending $1000 for four new tires?

Whitewall tires were very common when the car was built. If you don't like whitewalls, clean them & spray the white with black paint, that may last until they need replacement! If that don't satisfy you, buy new tires, they are not 1-k for a set of four!

You can get 4 raised white letter Cooper Cobras 235/60x15 for about $640 plus tax

In 1968, the car came with F70-14 tires. G70-14 will look even better. The modern equivalent is P225/70R-14. I like the Cooper Cobra Tires, I have them on my GS. Great ride and nice looking tire.

15" though. P255/60R-15 front, P275/60R-15 rear.

Larry - what width rim are you using on the 275’s? 15 x 8?

My solution in 1970 (GS350), was dismount and remount with the inner sidewall facing out. Cost back then was like $50,
so today a couple of hundred?

I mounted my Cooper Cobras white letters in from the get go . I used flat black spray paint to paint the letters. That was years ago. You can't see the lettering to this day.
