2005 Buick LeSabre
Hey all, I have a 2005 LeSabre with 110,000 miles on it. It's having an issue that is a bit confusing to me. It's happened multiple times where I'll be driving and the engine stops taking any throttle, the tach goes to 1000rpm doesn't die but won't accelerate. This has happened at low and high speeds. As part of my shotgun troubleshooting I replaced the ignition control module last night, drove it 3 seperate times with no issues, get up this morning to go to work and with the cruise set at 60 the rpms drop to 1000rpm and it wont take throttle. I cancelled cruise and in a few seconds it started working correctly and no more problems the remaining 30 miles to work. It has done the same thing at low speeds with no cruise set. Where should I be looking, is this car drive by wire?

Idk but someone on here will tell you. There is a physical throttle and cruise control cable attached to your throttle body

Drive by wire😳....Do you know where the the throttle body is? Have you looked?

Your car is not DBW. I have a 2005 Les Limited. It has physical cables for the throttle and the CC. Refer to post #2 by @2000ltd.

You may want to scan it for codes to see if any are present, and if any point to something that may affect your commute.

I just got this car, the farthest I have looked in that direction was the MAF which I cleaned.

I had a 2001 LeSabre that had a clogged Catalytic Converter. It wouldn't go faster than about 53 mph. Can yours reach 70?
Car will do 70 no problem ( unless it’s acting up)

I did pull the codes they are:
P0455 Evap Emission leak, P0102 Mass or Volume Air flow circuit low input, P0128 Coolant Thermostat, P0350 Ignition Coil Primary/Secondary circuit, P1350 Ignition Control System. I'm hoping its something like the TPS, but dont want to shotgun blast parts!

As I left work today it was running rough and then died, started it again, it continued running rough for a bit then cleared up. I made it home with one instance of it acting up briefly. No codes since I last cleared them. The last ones I cleared were P0102 and P0455.

Disconnect the MAF and see if it runs better. I was able to negotiate a much lower price when I bought my car five years ago due to the Service Engine Soon light being on with a P0102 code. I ordered a HITACHI MAF from Amazon and it took care of the P0102.

I also changed the spark plugs and wires just for maintenance being that I had no service records for the car.

At your mileage everything is probably ORIGINAL.

The MAF is mounted on the throttle body....you were literally right there. How did you accomplish cleaning the MAF?

Okay not sure what is was that I cleaned I’ve attached a pic, but I just figured out it wasn’t the MAF! Thanks for the questions, they helped me figure that out. So just cleaned the actual MAF, it started okay but then started surging so I unplugged and it seems to be better, will order new MAF plus some plugs and maybe wires (they don’t feel very pliable)

May I suggest a HITACHI MAF. HITACHI is the OEM.
AC Delco 41-101 plugs.
Replace the spark plug wires as well because you may have to destroy one or two of them in the back. to get them off.
