So, I have a clogged converter. I had the sluggishness, the jerking, etc...

Changed all the usual suspects to eliminate the problem and tested all the sensors in an effort to avoid accepting that was the CAT.

It wasn't until exhaust coming through the EGR into the intake manifold, melting a hole in my upper intake manifold that I finally accepted the reality, lol.

I don't really know too much about exhaust, so please bear with me.

I called the local muffler shop, avoiding cailing Midas. They quoted me at 240 per, saying there are to converters on the car..one per bank.

I got up under the car to have a look around. It looks like I have two pipes coming down from each side of the motor....going into one. Then, that feeds into the CAT, and then there is the downstream O2 sensor. Now, what I'm not 100% on, it then it feeds into what looks like a long muffler....is this the sound resonator? Not sure. It then goes on down the pipe, to the muffler and then out the back. Is this all correct? If not, what am I missing? Is the muffler shop wrong?

Also, could I just unbolt the CAT on the front, cut the pipe on the back and put a new one in using a sleeve and a couple of wide bands instead of having it welded?

Thanks,

Mark
