1995 Buick Park Avenue
First off let me just apologize for my lack of "mechanics terminology", my brothers the mechanic of the family, not me lol.
Anyways, I was driving my recently purchased 95 Park Avenue, on a small 10 minute ride to another town and back. Other than stalling once, everything was fine. On the way back, my car ended up stalling another 3, maybe 4 times, with me pulling over, topping off/ ensuring there was plenty of gas. The previous owner of the car wired it up his own way, and as such some lights / electronics wouldnt work unless the headlight switch was on (which it wasnt at teh time of occurence)

Anyways, I had just purchased this car 3 weeks ago, and other than the parking "pall/fall" pin (or whatever its called), everything else on the car was fine... so I thought. My buddy and I took a small drive to another town, 15 minutes each way. My car had stalled once on the way there, and another 3-4 times on the way back. I would usually just pull the car over, start it back, take off no problem. The stalling issue started occuring about one week before the event; and usually only manifested when you where hauling ass up a steep incline, or you take a sharp corner a little bit too fast. Sometimes you could play with the pedal a little bit and bring the car back from stalling, otherwise it seemed like itd be getting too much (and or little) gas, and stall out.

Anyways, it was right after the 3/4th stall, on the way back, that my low coolant light turned on (despite my headlight switch being off [ which turned some of the electronics/dash lights on]). I Immediately pulled over, and shut the motor off right away. I unfortunately noticed smoke coming out from underneath the hood. I will say it was a very light smoking, not very heavy/thick, and ending after only 5-7 seconds.

Returning to the car (to tow it) an hour later, my buddy noted that there was a pool of oil (or possible dexmerc, etc) under the car. Upon bringing it home, I had my brother (whos somewhat of a mechanic himself) take a brief look at the car. We boosted up the car and attempted to turn it over several times. It turned over just fine, and the car would "shake/sputter" like it usually does right when it fires up , but would then continue to attempt to turn over again, instead of normally idoling. From the looks and sounds of things, my brother noted that the engine was definitely turning over/ tryin g to burn something, so he seemed to think that my motor / head gasket was NOT blown, especially where I pulled over right away.

We tried starting it again with starting fluid, to no avail. He is stumped on what the issue could possibly be, so I figured Id come to here with my question. Any advice / diagnosis procedures I could perform would be greatly appreciated! I only bought the car not even a month ago, and its already 'dead" on me 🙁

Check the fuel pressure & spark to the plugs & report the findings. Has the fuel filter ever been changed?

you need to send pictures of your car under hood, show us any wiring modifications you can find. check all relays and fuses(multimeter for fuses helps a lot!)
And you need to charge your battery. Then finally, you need to get some codes. We need to know what the computer is saying. Sounds like no ignition, it oculd be related to passkey II or some wiring rigging by the PO

hows it going

Did this car sit for a long time at any point. My 95 sat and water in the tank caused a good deal of rust. Even after thoroughly cleaning the tank when installing the new pump, I still had to drop it for a cleaning one more time after a made the bad mistake of putting some berryman's B-12 fuel system cleaner. It cleaned the tank alright, filled the sump with tons up rust flakes. Fuel filter looked like mud coming out of it. As mentioned above, check fuel pressure. Your symptoms sound an awful lot like mine when the brand new fuel pickup sock was completely chock fulla rust.

Edit to add. Meh. Reread your post. If it doesn't fire on starting fluid. Look at ignition.

I was recently given a 2002 Park Ave that had sat for over a year. It had similar symptoms that escalated very quickly after letting it idle for about 10 minutes. The engine began to sputter and stall. I assumed old fuel but that wasn't the case.

Eventually it seemed like the car would make it home as the idle appeared to be getting better - but I was wrong. It made it one block and stalled. The engine would not even turn over. I had it towed home.

I found coolant in the oil and in the air intake. The air filter and also the spark plugs were soaked in coolant. At this point I knew that the upper and lower intake gaskets were both leaking.

The cylinders had become so overloaded with coolant that it couldn't burn it off quick enough and the engine hydrolocked. It was leaking coolant externally as well. It was also leaking oil from the valve covers terribly.

It all began with a sputter and a loss of coolant in a short time. I could pump the pedal to keep it from stalling when this was happening. Anyhow, I ended up replacing the upper and lower intake manifold gaskets, the valve cover gaskets, air filter, plugs, wires, oil and filter. It runs fine now.
