so I have a 95 buick riviera and one day when i put it into reverse it was hesitant but it went and the next day when i put it into reverse it died. it would start but when you put it into gear it would die, so i was told a fuel pump. well I have replaced the fuel filter, fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, ignition control module, coils, crankshaft position sencor, catilac converter, mass air flow sensor, throttle position sensor and egr valve and now it will start and stay running after it warms up but it still wants to stall in gear it will drive but it has no power its like it wants to stall its still hesitant. i am at wit end with this and clueless also i dont know what else could be wrong.

learn to drive a stick, or take it to a mechanic, idk, which......

check your transmission and transmission fluid amd transmission filter

Have your catalytic converters tested! If their stopped up they will cause the power loss and the dieing when it's put into gear, as they can cause the exhaust to build up in the engine! If the check engine light is NOT on or some other warning light it is NOT likely that it is an electrical/sensor problem! Also check your air filter! Also is their any color smoke (most likely black or blue) comming from the exhaust pipes when this problem occurs?

Bad torque converter.

Bad torque converter.

Could be the clutch in the torque converter is stuck on. If you connect a vacuum gauge to the engine, a fully warm engine should make 20" of vacuum at idle in park. Raising the engine speed to 2000 RPM, the vacuum should stay steady. If it starts to drop, the exhaust is plugged up. Most likely a collapsed pipe or clogged catalytic converter. A few checks with a fuel pressure gauge and a scan tool could have saved you a lot of money.

Scan the engine first. An Actron cp9145 will work with this car.

do you have a check engine light and/or codes?
