Hi,
my dear 1996 RMW is suffering from a recently departed Cruise Control Module.
I was shocked to find out that this part does not seem to be available any more anywhere.
I worked through the flow chart in the shop manual what could be the cause for my no longer engaging CC - and at the end it showed that the CC module must be the cause :-(

Does anybody have a working module for sale or can guide me to somebody who could have one?
I really hate driving without CC...

Its part #25140862 and was used in 1996 Roadmasters, Cadillac Fleetwoods, Impala SS und Caprice. Earlier years wont work unfortunately.

I´m located in Europe - and its completely impossible to find over here.

thanks in advance for any leads!
regards,
Gerald

Try the Car-Part.com salvage yard search, I just checked and they have several listed going from 25-125 dollars. A lot of of the yards primarily do mail order so I'm sure you could find one that would ship to Europe.

I just signed up here with a reference from the impalassforum.com. I occasionally come up with parts for B-bodies. I may be able to get one in the near future. I do not have a problem shipping to Europe. They are not cheap, at about $80 plus shipping.

My rms 1993 had the same problem. All the bulbs in the brake light rear window were burnt out. Replacing them fixed the cruise control. Not sure if your wagon has this setup, but worth a try.

Even if the bulbs are OK, too much corrosion of the window contacts will cause the same problem. There was a service bulletin about this -- IIRC, the answer was to install a diode in the wiring harness between the two contacts. The diode would have to be installed with the band to the positive side or it will short out the brake lights.

Thank you all for your reply - it looks like I did find a couple of modules in the meantime.
The car-part.com search turned up a couple of modules and some more were kindly offered from forum members. I will buy 2 (wont hurt to have a spare...) from these 2 members.

Thanks for the tips on the burnt brake lights. All of them do work perfectly on my car.

I went through the flow chart diagnostic in the FSM and did all the tests mentioned there. The FSM showed that the CC module must be the cause for the not engaging CC.

If I have a problem with the window contacts at the rear brake light would the procedure in the FSM show a wrong result? How can I test if the contacts are o.k.? It works correctly - i.e. it lights up..
IIRC I read on this forum that a non working center brake light has no effect on the CC on the 96??

When it got my RMW a couple of years ago the center brake light did not work due to corrosion but the CC worked perfectly...

If the centre brake light is operating then cruise control might be intermittent but it should operate sometimes.

Your previous corrosion condition suggests the diode was installed sometime in it's past life. Of course, the diode could have failed by now.
