2000 buick lesabre limited
Ive had my car 5 years, about 35000 miles. I work from home, so lamentably I dont rack up the miles. I put a standard parts EGR valve from oreily on my car when i first bought it five years ago. It failed pretty quickly. Next was a delco or GM (or something) valve from amazon. It fails, so I put an autozone one on it....maybe a year ago....my car is now throwing up p1404. Im proud of myself for getting an autozone part, because im just going to swap it out for free...but damn.

Is this typical? Is my 26 year old car getting lots of oil or something in the Exhaust? One of my favorite youtubers the Car Wizard complains about poor quality auto parts today...is this just what im seeing?

I will note 2 out of 3 delco ignition coils on my car have failed, and I replaced them with autozone parts, which are still doing well. I went with autozone because of the no questions asked warranty...maybe autozone is the way to go?

My 1997 Lesabre was at commuter car status and I got the code, with car bucking and spitting at idle (valve stuck open), bought a Standard Ignition Products replacement (made in China) EGR at Advance Auto with a lifetime warranty, came with a gasket. Was not cheap, like $185.00 back in 2014 when the money was better. 2 bolts and an electrical connector right up top under the hood. A year later and I am here in Maine coming home after 2nd shift in February, about 10° F outside, and as I roll into an intersection it starts bucking and spitting and the check engine light comes on, you guessed it, EGR stuck open, had the receipt, got the replacement, 2 bolts and a connector all set. For another year, then it was always around 0° that the new one would stick and that was it all done and ready for another warranty job. Changed 4 EGRs, got really quick at it before the last one (maybe because I went on 1st shift?) seemed to hold up.

CHEAP PARTS!!! At least the valve is easy to remove, and the autozone warranty is awesome. They didnt even look in the box when i returned the old one for money back...i could have put rocks in there. The new valve is in, and im good to go for another year!!!!

Never have. 95k on my 2001 and checked the EGR last month on a whim. Clean and functioning.

Of the four Lesabres I’ve had from 90K to 195K, never once had to deal with an EGR valve issue.

That's what I was thinking also! It's never been an issue on my 2001. I actually took mine apart just to see if it was clogged or dirty. Nothing.

The EGR on the 1997 did not act up until after 150K, and then only below 15° F, three other 3.8s we had never had an issue!
Might be a "up North" kinda trouble?
