2001 Park Ave. No start condition. Have spark and fuel.

Hello,

Monday morning I went to start my car 10 min before I leave for work. I turn the key and it started right up, but while being half asleep still I turned it back off after about 30 seconds. I go to start it back up and and my my car wont start. It turns over and all my lights come on but it wont start.

So I tried jumping it and still the same thing happens. While doing this I notice Im low on fuel. I start thinking that it got pretty cold last night (15-20°f) so I figured something is frozen.

I go to work and on my way home pick up 4 galons of gas to put into my tank. I get home put the fuel in and attempt to start it. Again, nothing.

So at this point I run up to O'Reilys and grab a fuel pressure tester. Get home and test the fuel pressure and get readings from 43-50 psi. So fuel pump is ok im guessing.

Next I pulled the three spark plugs in the front, one at a time and set them near some metal on the engine to test for sparks. All three plugs created sparks.

Right now Im at a loss as to what to try next. Im hoping this forum and all your expertise can help.

I went ahead and bought a new fuel filter and want to replace that but i am having trouble finding it.

Is there anything else I should look at?

Here is a diagram showing the fuel filter location (Item #2) which I doubt is the problem. If you have fuel pressure & spark, are the injectors firing? You will need noid lights to test that function, also available @ O'Reilly. Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) may cause the same symptoms, but be sure the injectors are firing first. Have you tried disconnecting the MAF to see if it will start?

Thank you Hotz28. That is very helpful.

Right after posting this my dad and I started crawling around under the car and looking for the fuel filter. We found it pretty quick after some savy googling. We knew you had to pull the relay and then try to start the engine to relieve the pressure in the fuel lines. So we did just that, pulled the relay and started the car, and what do you know? The son of a gun started and RAN for 5 seconds and died.

So we decided to continue on and replace the filter, it needed it anyway. So sfter replacing it and starting the engine up it ran just fine.

I have no clue why it started up after pulling the fuel pump relay, but I do know my dad and I are very happy to be done busting our knuckles up in 5 degree weather.
