Buick Regal 2001
I have a 2001 Buick Regal LS with 106k miles on it. Until a couple of weeks ago, I have had problems with this vehicle. What started a couple of weeks ago was that my son was driving with my wife and used the turn signal at a stop sign. The motor died, but was easily started. The motor died a couple more times at stop signs only when the signal was used.

I drove the vehicle around and had the same result with RPMs below 2000. Above that and it didnt seem to matter. I also had this on the freeway and had the engine die a couple of times while changing lanes at about 2000 RPMs again.

Then today I tried to start the car after using it about an hour earlier and all the lights on the dash started blinking and a clicking noise under the dash and in a relay under the hood was going. Here is a video of that blinking and what happens when the engine is turned over [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PVjP5w5HnGI[/ame].

Here is what I found. When testing the volts before start up I got 11.9V and while running (when it did start) 13.6V. The cables look good from the outside (I know the inside could be different) but bending the cable I could not feel anything suspicious. The motor will start once in a while but die immediately when the turn signal is used. The rest of the time I get the flashing lights and beeping and clicking. Any idea of where to start?

Thanks in advanced for the help.

Ok a little more looking around the car. First I checked the voltage again. 12.2V engine off, 14.2 with engine running. Also checked the ground below the battery and it looks great. I made another video with the blinking dash and beeping, then put the hazards on. It starts with hazards on, but dies with signal. IF I turn the hazards off, and turn the blinker on, then try to start the car about 5 times, it will start. Kinda wierd. I hope someone has a clue to help me out.

So I took the dash apart to find the clicking and its coming from the black box (ECM?) behind the hazard and turn signal relays. The clicking is coming from this board. Attached to this box is 4 different wire looms. When the middle right is taken off, the clicking stops if that helps.

Im thinkin it may be an ignition switch problem. play with the ignition when all of that starts to happen and see what happens.

Ok so I took everything off but the top clam-shell on the steering column (how do you get this off). I messed around with the ignition and it starts everytime now but still dies when the turn signal is used. Does that still sound like the ignition switch?

yes it does. the ignition switch ties into all the lights and switches. im bettin thats it.

I am having a similar issue with my 2002. Low beams don't come on like they are supposed to. I can get them to come on after about 15 minutes of driving and holding the high beams on. This "ignition switch" problems seems to be very common.
