Since I got this car a few months ago, the cruise control will not stay on unless I keep pressing down on the steering wheel switch. When I do that, it works as it should. I already replaced the steering wheel switch with one from a salvage yard but it works the same as before. I have read that it is probably the steering wheel switch and I need a new one, but I would like to eliminate other causes before spending $30 or more for a switch.
If the switch at the brake pedal, that disengages the CC, was not working or needed adjustment, would that cause this problem? I have looked for info on how to remove the brake pedal CC/brake lite switch from the brake, but haven't found out how to do it, and I am afraid to put much force on it to get it out of the bracket.
I can't tell which of the two switches on the module (one for CC, one for brake) is for CC, so I could probe the connector to see if it is working. Does anyone know which connector I can disconnect to check the CC switch? Any help is appreciated.

so, you are saying that when you press the on/off switch the switch pops back out and the little amber led goes out? If that is the case you can put a dot of super glue on the side of the switch then push it back in as if to turn it on, hold that for a couple seconds and it will stay on.

be careful not to press your finger into the glue itself, just a dot there on the switch so that it sticks. you can then disable c/c with the brake pedal and re set it by pressing set/decel button on right side of the wheel.

I tied mine in the on position, then I found a used switch, has worked ever since. A friend had a wrecked Lesabre, and gave me the switch and a few other other parts. The one you got from salvage may have been broken before you got it, common on these cars.

Yup, very common switch failure.
