2005 Lacrosse That tiny speaker/vent and it's purpose ???

I heard what appeared to sound like a geiger counter/static coming from a tiny speaker/vent/something on the dashboard just behind the ignition switch as if it were radio active. Heard it as soon as I turned the key to accessories, during entire trip upon return until key removal. Never heard it before, no idea what it is or what it's for. That "speaker/vent" is about the size of a quarter in diameter. I couldn't find it in the owner manual either. Stumped.

I think it's the speaker for the On star, but it shouldn't make any noise unless you have the OnStar engaged, and then it should be like a normal phone noise, but I'm just guessing.

Do you have automatic HVAC? It's the inside air temperature sensor. When they first came out, they were called "aspirators." There's a small fan that pulls air across the sensor. When the fan starts to go bad, it'll make a more audible noise.
