I've started having the ABS, Brake, and Traction Control lights coming on randomly. I took it in to my guy who does moderate repair jobs. He checked the codes and said he checked all the brake sensors and since they were good, it meant my EBCM module was going bad. He said he could replace the module but didn't have the software to program it. I was wondering if anyone here has had the EBCM replaced and what the approximate cost would be. Thanks

I know not cheap can’t say how much did one years ago and pretty sure there’s lots of places out there you can get good refurbished OEM and they can flash it for you with your VIN# and it’s a lot cheaper than brand new.

Thanks for your response. I figured they were pretty costly. I will definitely check out a refurbished unit online. If they can pre-program it, it would be great. I appreciate the advice.

UPDATE:

Though I would post an update in case it might help someone else in troubleshooting this issue. I had the misfortune of having my alternator die on me. After having it replaced, the issue of intermittent ABS, Brake, and Traction Control lights illuminating miraculously disappeared. All I can assume is that before the alternator died, it was putting out a reduced current that triggered the warning lights somehow. So now I don't have to replace the EBCM after all.

A subscription to AC-DELCO TDS system (to get the software or permissions needed) costs $45 for 2 years, per vehicle, and Tech2Win (if he needs it) is either $62 (for 3 days) from GM or free if you look around for downloads. Site registration is free. If he has a GM-compatible scanner that's the maximum extra cost he's looking at.

Good that it was the alternator and not the EBCM.

Thanks for that info. I'll pass that along to my mechanic.

With a mis-diagnosis like that maybe you should pass that mechanic and find a better one😳😁

Unfortunately, these "mechanics" are the new norm out here. I can tell you a few true stories, in the tens of thousands of dollars true stories.

Correct. He's a very good mechanic, but it's a small shop, not a dealership or anything. I doubt he's ever encountered this particular issue before, so I can't be too hard on him. I certainly didn't but the alternator together as being linked to the EBCM issue I had.
But you are correct. Those types of mechanics are widespread I'm

That’s just another reason why I do 99 percent of the work on my cars….and also the fact that I’ve been burned by slip-shod work at a Texaco gas station about 40 years ago.😳

So glad I read your post. I bought my son an '08 Lucerne two weeks ago. Nice car; it was surprising how easily the guy took my offer but a few days later I started getting the intermittent ABS, Stabilitrak, etc. warnings that may have scared him into accepting the offer. But having noted a faint whine in the radio that could have been originating in the alternator I decided to try the alternator I had saved after a hit-and-run driver destroyed my '07 LaCrosse. The warnings and whine have gone away.

Thanks!
