2012 Regal Turbo - Chrome bezel around gear shifter can be blinding

I bought my car 6 days ago. I drove it in mostly sunny conditions for 4 days at most times of the day for my work. I am off on the weekend and yesterday, day 5, I got blinded when heading west at about 1030 CST. I put my hand over the source, which was the chrome plated shifter bezel (my hand is about that size but much smaller than the sun).

For all you guys not having the problem, that is great. As for me, I am 6'2" and drive with the seat most of the way back and I got blinded. Maybe only us well equipped drivers are having the problem!

I'm 5'7" with the seat 3/4 of the way back, my wife is 5'2" and we both had the glare problem. Get it vinyl wrapped, it goes away.

What is the easiest way to fix this sun glare problem. I am tired of keeping a piece of felt over the cover and want a permanent solution. I ask the dealer and they didn't have a solution. I asked to companies that do window tinting and they said they couldn't do it.

I am not handy with cars and cannot do it myself.

I went to JoAnne Fabrics and bought a dark brown self stick felt sheet. I made a template of the area where the gear shift is and than used the template to cut that area out of the felt sheet. Once that was done, I slipped the felt sheet over the gear shift, placing it as I wanted it, and than I cut away the felt that was extending beyond where the chrome finish is, leaving me with a felt sheet that would cover just the chrome finish. The rest is easy, just slip the felt sheet over the gear shift, peel off the backing and press it onto the chrome so it is fully covered. It's a very inexpensive fix, and I don't even notice the felt anymore - it's just there.

When I trade in our 12 for a 14, the first thing I'm going to have the dealer do is switch the shifter plates in the 2 cars.

I wonder if some 600 grit sand paper would help, similar to what I read on the post about the DRL's in the bumper, if successful, it would leave a matte finish, like the ring around the shifter.
