Hello,

Thanks to all the good suggestions on the forum for this issue. I tried most of the ones I found but the car still will not start.

Now I am at crossroads and would like to narrow down the issue.

Car will not turn over. Depress the brake pedal and it is very hard...

Press the START button and the following occurs:

Dash lights up with following messages:
Hood Open (which is was)
Open Close Driver window
Service Stabilitrak
Service Power Steering
Service Parking Assist

Check Engine Light ON
Traction Control Indicator ON
EPB service Indicator ON
Radio turns ON and works OK.

Verifications/checks done to date:
  • Verified battery at parts store - Tests OK. Charged it for good measure anyhow.
  • Checked all the engine compartment fuses. All OK.
  • Listened for clicking sound (starter solenoid) when pressing START button and click does occur.
  • Cleaned connectors for POSITIVE and NEGATIVE battery cables. Cleaned body ground bolt for battery ground cable and other connectors attached to it.
  • Replaced Battery Ground Cable with new original cable - AC Delco. Used dielectric grease on all connections.
  • Replaced batteries in both key FOBs
  • Error code: only the U0101 - error communicating with the TCM
  • Disconnected both the rear side detection sensors (Passenger was previously defective and not replaced).
  • Tried to boost the car before doing the above and after, with exactly the same result. Will not turn over.
All the above was done in varying sequences, all with the same no turn over and with the same service indicators on.

I know that there has been a few threads regarding this issue, but I haven't come across one where the post indicated the hard brake pedal issue I have.

Any and all comments/suggestions are welcome.

Thanks

The brake pedal will typically go hard simply by pushing it several times when the motor isn't running, which you will need to do to start it with the button setup. This pedal hardness clears when it finally starts again.

On an older car I would look at the neutral safety switch, but I don't even know if there is a physical switch on your newer model (have you attempted to start the car in neutral, if even possible without a key setup? You may need to hit the start button without your foot on the brake for the accessory function to start and it to allow you to then shift into neutral, with your foot on the brake at that point).

Based on what you've said with what you think is the starter solenoid engaging, I would guess the starter itself has failed if it's not turning. But that's just a guess.

Yes, I am able to shift into neutral. In fact I can shift into any gear I select.

Is there a way to test the starter without gong to the repair shop?

Somebody else may be able to help with that. Last time I suspected a starter I went ahead and changed it and it fixed the issue. I am less familiar with your car though.

Hello Again,

I had the car towed to the garage and they found the following:

DTC U0101 No communications w/TCM - problem was due to a missing ground at the TCM module.

Replaced the ground and everything works fine.

Hope this helps anyone else with this type of a problem.

BTW, the car has 118, 200 km (approx. 71,000 miles).

Hi I just read this post and yes I see it's from 2021 but I'm having the exact issue with my 2014 Buick verano. The thing u had fixed, what was it n was it expensive?

You had a jump start and after that did not have the battery load tested or the charging system checked. You do not necessarily have the same problem as this thread.
