Almost EVERYTIME I start my car a black screen pops up saying the Nav is loading. This isn't first GM car with Nav and none of them have done this. Nor has other makes I've had. Do I have a problem?

It sounds like you do have a problem. I would take the car to the dealer and have them to check it out. It may be something as simple as reloading the Disc to perhaps replacing the Infotainment Unit.

Good Luck.......

Bigdog9586,
I would also have to recommend contacting your local dealer for more assistance. Keep me posted and let me know if you need additional assistance.

Have an appointment this Wed. At Young Buick in Owwoso. We'll see who we'll their service Department works. Then we will fill out the GM survey that they want all perfect score.

Tricia, service department tells me that when car is started and the Nav screen is active or split between radio on half and Nav on other half a black window will come up saying NAVIGATION INITIALIZING. I have never had this on other GM products in the past. They say it takes longer to load things now then before. I thought that's what the Buick display popping up when you first started the car was for. I just don't want a problem going down the road. If it is supposed to do this fine but there is nothing in the owners manual saying to beware of this.

Bigdog9586, my Verano does the same thing if the Nav screen was up when I turned the car off. I'd estimate it takes 30 seconds or so to "initialize". I also notice that voice commands are not available immediately. It takes several seconds for the voice system to initialize as well.

Thanks that's what I'm looking for. I just wanted to make sure all is well as none of my other cars with nav ever acted this way. I realize there are more features than old days but didn't want a problem down the road. Thanks for your answer.

This does sound common, and normal. My Regal GS with the SD card based Navigation system does the same when first turned on, for a short time. Like any system, there is always a boot up time where it shows & tells you it is doing so, or otherwise.

I agree with all of you but there is no reason this can't be done in the background freeing up the display to use for other things. Poor thinking on GM. The Nav should come up with last known position and as Nav gets the sats it can fine tune itself.

It always amazes me that car engineers think they can design navigation systems with no prior experience. The car companies often buy brand name sound systems for their vehicles. Why does no car company install a name brand navigation system—or at least the operating system—in their vehicles.

The Mercedes–Benz navigation system, on at least some of their vehicles, at least looks like a Garmin interface but I do not have any direct experience. At least if it was a Garmin, I would be able to expect a lifetime update subscription for a reasonable upfront cost.

do you have Route numbers and interstate numbers on you map. For example the interstate logo and number....Or do you have common road names like "Branch Ave"....I do get a FEW route numbers..I have had this issue since I purchased my 2012. Last week I called GM back after more than a year of going back and forth and I am waiting for a new 2013 updated disc. But no one can tell me if it is going to solve my issues.
When I start my car the Buick logo comes up for around 30 seconds than the full nav screen.

Looks like the 2013 disc is available for $199.99 (GM - North America Map Update - v.2013 SKU# 22943315), is your dealer getting it for you?

Searched here, found this.

I have a 2013 with new maps and it shows both route numbers and road names. The scale that you have the map set on will make a difference on route numbers. I also like a feature in that when you get near a turning point, the screen will go into a split mode and show on the right side the highway intersection with an arrow pointing to the proper lane to anticipate, or if in the city it will show the street intersection with street names and turn arrows.

Understand how the scales operate, thanks. Mine is not right, dealer verified. GM offered no resolution, I just kept on it for over a year... MY self!!!!!r. Had open ticket with GM, they forgot me ad my problem.....
This site offer no help other than providing a number that I had already exhausted. GM is paying for disc, as they should since, but only after a long discussion with them... I have full warranty and ordered car with a NAV. Don;t know if this disc will fix, we will see. it is suppose to be here Saturday.
I drove 8 others that had the same issue, so the problem is out there. keep my fingers crossed.......very disappointed with GM though....they dropped the ball even with follow up to an open warranty claim issue.....But, still love the car..

Your experience notwithstanding, I have had pretty good warranty experience. In fact, I received an entire new stereo/NAV due to the well-known "washington, DC" issue. As well as a couple of other replacements (oxygen sensor, catalytic converter, and drivers side seat track). I wonder if its not actually a GM issue you are having, but a dealership problem? My dealership has bent over backwards to keep me happy, which surprised me, as I bought the car used from another place...they have likely earned a future car buyer with their attitude and service.

Regardless, good luck with your issue...

I have changed dealership as GM suggested. The second dealership confirmed the GPS map is missing info, ie..route numbers and interstate numbers. He was going to replace the whole gps unit, got on the phone with GM and was told not to-- it would not fix the problem, this was when the car was new in 2011. I have been dealing with it since..
Anyway, I received the new disc and installed.......NO HELP OR CHNAGE.....there is one or two New interstae markings. I think it is more of a POI update.
I guess I am stuck with a dysfunctional GPS.
I am getting ready to buy my wife a new car. was going to but her a new Enclave but seeing how GM handle this I am looking at a different MFG. Sad since my driveway is full of GM cars.
