2013 Verano
Hello Everyone! I am new to the forum so please forgive me if this topic has already been addressed, I did look but I couldn't find anything. If it has been, could you, please, direct me to the thread?

I just bought a 2013 Verano and now after driving it I can hear a squeaky noise (almost like a spring or when the marker squeaks on a white board) coming from the middle of the body of the car between the passenger seat and the back seat. It is only audible to me after exceeding ~30 MPH and it doesn't seem to affected by road surface (i.e. it doesn't get worse when going over bumps).

At first I thought one of my windows wasn't rolled up/can't roll up all of the way but that doesn't seem to be the case as I can still hear the noise when the window is rolled down although it is a bit more difficult with road noise. Has anyone experienced something like this or have any idea what it could be?

Of course I didn't hear this in the couple test drives that I took and I don't have a warranty besides the NYS lemon law which I don't believe would apply to this.

Thanks for taking the time to read and in advance for any help you can provide!

-Mac

Odd noises in odd places can be a tough diagnosis.
Do you think the noise is coming from inside the passenger compartment or from outside/underneath the car?
Is it non-stop or intermittent once you are over 30 mph?
Does it always squeak when you go over 30 or just sometimes?

Normally I would have you check the exhaust system for any looseness.
But you said bumps and road service doesn't change it, so that probably isn't it.

Could be something in the drive train, but that would normally come from in front of the passenger compartment.
How many miles are on the vehicle?

Have you had anybody ride along, in both the front and back seat to see if they can narrow down the area?

If you can reliably get it to squeak then it might be worth taking it to a service shop.

Good Luck and let us know what you find...

does the squeak go away when you step on the brakes?

Thanks very much for the responses! Let me answer your questions:

It is intermittent but tends to happen more often than not.
The car has ~57,500 miles.
I rode in the passenger and back seats today while someone else was driving and I could've sworn that it was in the back when I was in the passenger seat and the front when I was in the back.

I am really not sure about when I brake. I will have to pay more attention tomorrow

I have a recording from my phone of the noise but I can't attach it because "the uploaded file does not have an allowed extension" (it is an .m4a) does anyone know how I can attach this?

We think that it may be the muffler heat shield is loose so I am going to try to fix that. I will let you know when I do if that fixes the problem.

So we got some extra bolts from a dealer (we ended up needing 2) fastened the muffler heat shield with them and some washers to be sure they hold and I haven't heard the noise since.
