2015 Buick Regal Turbo
Hey guys. Feeling a little confused on this one. Had my Regal Turbo now for 3 weeks. Changed oil 2 weeks ago to amsoil ss 5w30, amsoil filter. Today on my drive home from work, I popped one code and I haven't been able to find much info other then the generic stuff.

PO6DE
Engine oil pressure control circuit stuck on

I plugged in my scan tool and pulled this data. To help

Runtime 5, 800 seconds.
Evap PCT 18%
Eq-rat 0.999
Idle load of 29%

Driving casually in cruise control at 70 mph. Car driven for over 90 minutes prior to CEL. No full throttle time entire drive. Drove the block or so home with CEL, oil pressure warning did not turn on. Oil life is 95% and oil level is good and looks clean and without issues.

Any info would be fantastic. Thank you in advance

Are you sure you used the correct oil filter?
Yes, Amsoil EA15K50 filter. Used Amsoil Signature Series 5w30.

As an update, car was sluggish today to start, and until coolant temp was 200* and oil was warm, if felt like the car had no power. I think ill replace my oil pressure senser and my variable oil pump solenoid. If that does not fix it, then it leads me to think that the oil pump may need a look at.

Update: Oil pressure sensor replacement did not fix the problem. I will try using Mobil 1 0w40 Supercar and PF64 filter, before I commit to a variable oil pump solenoid replacement.
Why would you go to a 0W40 instead of a 10W40? 0W40 when cold will generate less pressure than 5W30.

The wrong viscosity oil will also negatively affect the operation of the VVT solenoids.

The thought process behind 0W40; despite the 0W40 rating, the oil is thicker both at cold start up and at operation temp as compared to the 5w30. Below I have the oil viscosity as measured in centistokes (cSt). Oil viscosities are more of bands of operation rather then set "thicknesses." This also becomes important as temp plays a large role in how the oil operates.

The Amsoil 5W30 I was running is measured at 10.4 cSt @100*c and 59.7 cSt @40*c
The Mobil 1 0W40 I am now running measured at 12.9 cSt @100*c and 69.1 cSt @40*c

I am thinking that if the 0W40 stops the problem, it shows that there is internal engine damage from wear. Since the trouble code only pops on trips longer then 45 minutes, This is a less invasive way of testing the "engine go brrrrrr because engine worn out" theory, rather then tearing down the engine and measuring bearing clearances.

I would stick to the oil designated for your engine and outside weather. 5-30w will cover 99% of that. Your car is also 10 yrs old, past history may be a mystery. If it triggers codes for oils problems follow a diagnostic tree to solve it. Just to be safe I would rig up a manual mechanical oil pressure tester to see pressure at different operating states.

Update on the regal. M1 0w40 supercar doing good so far. Engine is much quieter both at start up and at op temp. My Blackstone oil sample came back from my first oil change before the amsoil 5w30. I'll try to attach it here, but there were elevated aluminum and iorn, 8 and 10 ppm respectively. Might switch to a thicker 5W30 like Quaker State Ultimate Protection 5w30. It's at 11.7 cSt. I'll keep you updated.

Perhaps reference these bulletins from GM. You can search for them:
PI 1482
PIP 5676A
18-NA-246
Would be a good idea to see if reprogramming the ECM would solve an oversensitive oil solenoid.
Also, next step would be oil pump with new solenoid if you aren't getting low pressure message-see bulletins.

This will be the final update I think in this thread. I have switched from M1 0w40 Supercar to Motul 5w40 300v. This car responds well to this oil, and the past 2 UOA with this oil have come back rather positive at a drain interval of 3000 miles. I am also running an aftermarket oil cooler and oil temp/ pressure gauge setup. I don't think this is the right setup for every Regal, but for what looks to be a rather abused car prior to my involvement, it is a good way to prolong the life of the car.
