2016 Buick Regal
I have a 2016 Regal (2.0) with just over 40K miles. In fact, it's probably one of the last out there with remaining powertrain warranty from GM. I recently did a round of maintenance on the car myself, including: new spark plugs (OEM), new engine air filter (OEM), and cleaning the throttle body. Almost immediately, I noticed when I am driving I can feel a very slight chugging/hiccuping/hesitation when accelerating (even if using cruise control). It almost feels like when a transmission slips, but it does it every 2-3 seconds when the car is going specific speeds. For example, in between 40-45MPH (on cruise control) and 75-77MPH I can usually get it to act up. Any ideas on where to start before I take it in? Dealers around me have trash service and even with a warranty, they try to charge outrageous diag fees.

Lastly, I have had a slew of transmission problems in the past 12 months. I've experienced hard shifting, slipping, and delayed shifting. GM performed the 18-NA-358 bulletin (upper/lower valve body replacement). The tricky part is I did my maintenance right around the same time as the repair so not sure what the culprit is. I have noticed when the car is chugging/hiccuping, usually the shifts before/after flare up. Flare as in the RPMs will flare and then I experience somewhat of a harsh shift.

Do you have a check engine light on?

Then recheck the work you did, plugs are correctly gapped, electrical connections are not shorting out, no leaks in air filter housing or ducts leading to it.

Check your fuel cap. If it’s not engaged appropriately it will create a bad air/fuel mixture. You may need a replacement if you seal is cracking.
