2024 Buick Regal Facelift (China Market)

The redesigned front for Buick looks like they’ve struck a deal with Toyota to share parts. Another ploy by Mary Barra to cut costs.

Am I looking at the 86?

Buick is alive and well in China. The China market Buicks are all made in China, and not at the Rüsselsheim factory where ours and all other variants were produced. Also kinda interesting that the Regal is a sedan in China and not a sportback.

It looks like they hired people away from Lexus to come up with this and gave them a 3D printer as a signing bonus.

Ugly grills and all the Buick lineup in China is, sadly, still infinitely more interesting than what is offered in the US. Once they go all in on EV I would guess the grills would start to morph again into something else and hopefully less hideous.

That’s the part that I don’t get. Changing a bumper is one thing. Changing to a sedan seems more complicated than necessary.

Yeah I don't know... Maybe a market study determined the Chinese prefer a normal trunk. Could be a regulation thing too. Or maybe it was just cheaper altogether.

The front end is coming to the Envision as well. Don’t know about the Enclave. All I can say is that I am currently enjoying my last Buick.

Dang, I never knew how strongly the look of a grille mattered. The China and Euromarket are indeed different. Heck, I wish we could get some of the hatchbacks and wagons Europe gets. The motorcycle market is the same way. IF Toyota would have brought a diesel Taco to the US, I would probably own one

This entire thread adds more fuel to confirm buying-out our 2019 TourX was a decision I like - the decisions certainly don't all go that way

I saw this morning that VW is drastically reducing their EV production as sales are over 30% below forecast. I have felt for quite awhile that automakers were marching themselves towards a cliff as the demand for EV’s is just not there and there is zero market for used EV’s.
It reminded me of the late 60’s when my dad retired from GM. He had spent 41 years there and had reached the very top management group of the company. He said that GM would go bankrupt because they felt that they could tell consumers what they wanted instead of listening to their customers and designing what the customers wanted.
GM has clearly not learned from their bankruptcy. For a few years they built solid well designed vehicles in different styles to satisfy many drivers. Now, however, they offer only SUV’s from Buick and seem determined to bury cars with gasoline engines. In my opinion these will prove to be fatal mistakes.
In the case of their China market, if they want to drive cars that look like that so be it.

I don't understand why brands are so allergic to selling plug in hybrids in the states, it really seems like an awesome middle ground. Even Toyota has plug in hybrid variants that they refuse to sell in the states

If the dealers would lay off the $10K market adjustment fees I'd bet their sales would be better!
