79 Riv NO REVERSE

Hello gents, I am looking at a 79 riviera tomorrow, and the seller says it does not have reverse gear. Is this a common problem? Easy to fix? Low on fluid? Avoid altogether?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Google thm325 no reverse, says rebuild

Common problem . Requires a rebuild. Get a discount on the price of the car from the seller considering the rebuild cost. Get an estimate from several shops. OR, avoid it, your choice. If it is an otherwise nice car, it may be worth it to negotiate a fair price.

Thanks Larry. I looked at the car today, and unfortunately it had the "kiss of death" roof rust which is common here in Florida.
