Does anyone here remember when the GNX was announced?
Did this happen before the order book was closed?
Was this car available for order or was it just portioned out to certain dealers?
How many weeks, after or before the order book was closed, was the car available to purchase or order?

The GNX book produced by Buick Division, might help to answer some of your questions.
(1) The production of non-GN "G" body cars ceased on July 30 1987, GN production continued until the plant closed Dec 23, 1987.
(2) GN's were designated to become GNX as required and were built as GN but a GNX sticker was placed on the windshield. They were built without GN decorative trim. Then transported to
the Limited-Edition Vehicle group in Livonia MI.
(3) The first batch of GN's to be converted were transported on April 24 1987
(4) The first finished GNX 001 (vin 1G4GJ1174HP439259) was delivered to Buick on May 8 1987

The original plan was to build 200 but as order/response was received the number was changed to 500.
Buick had a program designated the Select 60 Buick Dealers......the criteria set by the General Manager (Buick) and they were allowed to add a GNX to their allotment which apparently boosted the total to 547.
I am not an expert on GN's but enjoy the story behind many cars, so my library has some reference material. You input is probably just a start......as experts come forth, they will add to and correct anything I have wrong.
