- 94 Roadmaster Estate Wagon
So I've got a 1994 Roadmaster Wagon which has been acting up in the last few weeks. I'm not sure if it's a misfire or what. A few months ago (about 10k miles ago) it was also having a pretty severe misfire. I took it to a mechanic who replaced the distributor and the spark plugs. After he did that, it ran great...for a while.
Now the problem is creeping back.
The engine has been running rough, sounding louder and more agitated normal. What's worse, the car feels very under-powered, especially when accelerating from a stop or at low speeds. This low power also coincides with a sort of jerk-ing motion. The problem feels much worse when the engine is hot, and is not so bad when I'm starting from cold.
There are four other minor issues that may or may not be related, but have been ongoing for some time now:
1. I sometimes feel heat and can smell exhaust from the driver's seat when my window is down.
2. There is a faint exhaust smell coming from the air conditioner/vent. It's worse when I'm idling and not very noticeable when I'm driving at highway speeds.
3. The heat doesn't work (and hasn't for a while)--when the heat is on, the air is slightly warmer than outside, but not quite warm and never hot.
4. At very low speeds (e.g. when parallel parking), the power steering sometimes seems to fail and I have to pull the wheel very hard.
Any clues what the cause might be? The distributor, spark plugs, and water pump are all quite new. I'm not much of a mechanic myself, but I love this car and would like to be able to identify the problem when I take it to a mechanic instead of paying for work that doesn't fix it!
Thanks in advance!
